Default Blighted Ovum

Just went for the u/s today (EDD was 11/9/04). RE could see the preg sac but nothing in it so said it was either blighted ovum or we are off on our calculations of when I ovluated. Think it is th BO. Anyone else with this situation?

((hugs))

I had a blighted ovum in 99. I didn't know I was pregnant at the time. I was bleeding for a while, and then the bleeding became quite heavy. My periods were so scattered, that who knew what was going on. I was having a miscarriage w/o realizing it, finally went to the ER b/c of the pain. It was/is hard for me to deal with it, b/c I always wonder if it really counted, ya know? If it was just a sac, and no baby, does it still count?

When will you know for sure? Will they do another ultrasound, or did they perform a blood test?

Keep us informed!

Thanks for the reply. Hey I live in Alliance, OH, not too far away.
They did bloodwork today. Just got the results say beta was a little over 10,000 Doc would like that to be higher. But that seems in the normal range for 7-8 weeks. I am so confused. Go back on Monday for more bloodwork and another scan.

It's always hard when you aren't really sure what's going on with the numbers. I'm hoping that everything's ok!

You are close by...I'm in Lake Twp. There's a yahoo group for akron canton pcos'ers, in case you are interested. There aren't many of us, but we seem to post a lot. Email me if you are interested in joining up. A few of us got together for lunch a few weeks ago...it was fun.

My SIL's sister had this happen to her twice = once in Sept. '02 and then again in Dec '02. I know she saw a couple of specialist and they didn't know the cause. Her dr.s wanted to wait awhile before ttc again. She is now pregnant and due in Sept.

Pooker - yes I would be interested in that group please send me the info

Beth - thanks for the encouragement

to make matters more interesting, we are simutaniously trying to adopt thru the County. We were called yesterday by our SW and told of three siblings ages 3, 2 and 1 who need a home. We are being considered. This is just too much for us to take in one day. I keep telling myself things will all turn out well in the end.

I am worried though that since I am not bleeding, if I do have the blighted ovum, I will have to have a D&C, not looking forward to that.

Sounds like you might have your hands full with 3 siblings! A friend of mine is a foster parent and got 2 kids right away, and one was a newborn. The newborn is almost a year old now, and they are in the process of adopting her. Make sure you let us know how your appt goes on Monday! I'll be thinking of you!

Here is the address for the local group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/akroncantonpcos

If you have ANY problems, please let me know...a few of us had problems getting there from this address, so if you do we can go in the back door...

Look forward to "seeing" you there!

I am so sorry to hear it is a blighted ovum. Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow, and I will be thinking of you.

Take your time recovering, and remember that we're here for you. Look forward to "seeing" you at the Akron/Canton pcos group.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I miscarried in 10/03 of a blighted ovum. I was like almost 14 weeks along or so. It was crazy. I had some spotting, cramping GP just brushed it off and it would just come and go. Then one day it came and did not leave and I had more intense pain. Ended up in emerge expecting to leave that Friday afternoon in October hearing that all was well just some minor thing. Found out that there was a sac and no baby at all. The words seemed so surreal. It was like whatta F_ _ K is this lady saying????? I could not understand and then she was like you can have your D & C now.... I was like no I have to go home. I was so disoriented at that point I needed time with DH to absorb it all. It was very tramatic. Some say well it was never there due to the genetic problems from the beginning but still it was a baby to us and it hurt like hell and still does sometimes.

Anyhow, I am trying again now with the help of metformin and I am scared to death that it may happen again. These fears follow me but I am trying my best to keep positive.

Even now this Blighted Ovum stuff does not make a whole lots of sense to me what I have been told is that right from the beginning when the sperm and egg met there were genetic problems which led to the pregnancy not sticking. Then because it went on for so long (spotting etc) the baby just got absorbed into my system again like it was never there. Thus I was just left with a sac. Either way IT SUCKED>>>>>>

I am so sorry. If you need/want to talk I am here.
