Me in Dixie

My Screwed Up Off Day

Rate this Entry
Well, I usually have about one day out of the month that's just for me--no husband and no child. But today the husband didn't go to work until 5:00 and I decided to keep Luke at home and do some fun things.

We're tired of paying $100 for cable that doesn't even include the movie channels, so DH was staying at home to meet with the satellite dish man. When we had one years ago, the company put it on the small part of our deck and it worked fine.

Shortly after they arrived my husband came upstairs to tell me they had to put it on the side of the house. I said "oh, no" and went outside with them. He was going to mount this big ugly dish on my house, but then said he could mount it on the bricks. Like I want 1) a big ugly dish on the side of my house and 2) big holes in the house when we take down the dish. I told them we were sorry for the inconvenience but we didn't want it. Now we're going to just get basic cable with the same company and buy our own Tivo box.

Lucas and I drove to Sonic so he could get his "blue drink" and that "twirly" ice cream. I got some Cheddar Poppers and they gave me ketchup instead of ranch dressing. Then we went to the park but it was so hot even Luke was ready to go back home. Why would a park cut down all the trees over the kiddie section? There's no shade and the equipment burns your skin in the summer.

We stopped at the Salvation Army and I saw a cabinet I might buy. It's sort of primitive looking and has two glass doors on top, two drawers, and two doors at the bottom. I might have DH strip it and paint it a Van Gogh blue. I love mission style and the blue will add some color to my hallway.

Lucas bought a long bowling alley toy. I can't believe all the pieces were there. He's a bowling freak and wanted to leave the store once he had HIS game.

Luke has been playing with his real but dead cell phone lately. I'll catch him with his hands on his hips talking into it, then he'll slam it shut like he's seen people do. He was calling some girl about worm flowers this afternoon. He ended the conversation with "Well, that's just tough," and slammed the phone shut.

Tomorrow we're going to meet up with my SIL and her daughter and hit some more thrift stores. Hey, I'm doing my part recycling in this consumer-crazy world. I digging through junk to find a treasure.

Happy Friday, everyone.

I love thrift stores as well! You find the neatest stuff there!!

    Luke is too cute! :

I think cable is too expensive also. We pay that much and don't get the movie channels either. It's such a rip off!

I wish we had a Sonic here!! You know, they play their commercials on tv here in San Diego, but they don't have Sonic here! The nearest one is 2 hours north! Boo!!!

LOL @ "Well, that's just tough!" I hate it when any of my days seem a little atypical, but a day off?! Ugh.

I am going to the thrift store today! BOOKS!

I'm so used to having one day to myself every month (even though I spend a lot of time cleaning up the house during it), so I get a little perturbed when a wrench is thrown into my plans.

Aymen, thanks for the sweet words about Lucas. The few shows we watch don't even warrant cable, but there are some things that come on history and science channels that we do enjoy. We don't watch anything on network TV except Survivor and AI. We just bought our own Tivo, so if it weren't for that I'd probably tell DH just to cancel cable. There's too much other stuff to do in life than watch TV.

Sonics rule! I love their sundaes and malts. And cheddar poppers.
