IVF just might be our miracle

Posted 08-30-2009 at 11:27 PM by MicheleT422
I never thought I could give myself so many shots in such a short period of time! I started the protocol on Friday 8/14, and the egg retrieval was last Thursday 8/27. They got an even dozen, 11 of them were fertilized, and 8 of those became embryos!!!! We'll be doing a 5 day transfer on September 1, and then the 2WW begins...

I'm beyond relieved that this worked for us - 8 embryos gives us 4 chances, although we're most decidedly hoping we'll get lucky the first time out. Once we get that BFP, then it's time to make the appointment to finalize everything for the transabdominal cerclage surgery, which if I'm counting correctly would be somewhere around Halloween. As physically, psychologically and emotionally demanding as this has been, I know it's all worth it. After Claire and Ryan, I knew I would do anything I had to do to become pregnant again and we will fight for a full-term healthy pregnancy.

Congrats! We are debating getting IVF because the doctors have said that is our only chance. I am really scared of the whole IVF process. We dont have any kids. I'm 29 and the docs say that Im still young so I have time. But I really wanted to be done with kids by 30. I am really hoping and praying that when we try it happens the first time around.

Was this your first time with IVF. Is there anything more you can tell me?

I hope everything goes very well and you will be seeing your baby soon. :-)

While the IVF process is physically intense (there's no other word for it, it's a LOT of medicines and monitoring), it's also emotionally draining. This was our first round of it, and we'll be going for our 2nd transfer attempt in late October. I'm only 32, but we've been trying for 7 years (this is our 3rd doctor), and everything gets complicated by my needing to have a transabdominal cerclage placed, which they didn't know I needed when I was pregnant with twins last year. IVF seems to work for a lot of people, I just hope that eventually you and I join the ranks of success stories
