Pcos Or Endometriosis?

Posted 11-02-2009 at 04:34 AM by Olivo801
I don't currently have health insurance so I have not made an appointment yet so I thought I would ask the real experts...the women who actually have PCOS.

I think that I have PCOS but am not sure. I have done an insane amount of research on it and have many of the symptoms. I have the darkining around my neck and groin area as well as my under my arms. I have had severe acne since puberty, irregular periods, large clots, and the most severe pain on the right side directly over my right ovary, always my right never my left. The pain is strong and achy constantly from once I start menstrating to when it ends. I feel pressure on the right side and sometimes a sharp pain. It is almost always the strong achy pain on the right ovary, right lower back and right thigh. I also have a bit more than normal hair on my knuckles and toes, my stomach and under my chin (the chin isn't so bad that it is noticable) While I have my period it is sometimes painful to have a bowel movement, I feel pressure shoot to my right pelvic region so intense that I feel like something is going to pop. Since I don't have insurance I tried to follow a low glycemic diet being as how I read that it helps dramatically with PCOS. When I followed it my acne virtually dissapeared. When I eat really unhealthy my period is always late. When I follow low glycemic it is usually on time. Then if there is a time when I am not eating much of anything my period won't come at all. I would have to say that the worst part of all of this is the pain I experience during my period, so I thought maybe I just have a cyst on my ovary without actually having PCOS. Then I started researching Endometriosis and it sounds like I could have that too or just the PCOS. I am completely lost on this one and know that I have to go the doctor no matter what, but anyone who has any input or opinons on this I would appreciate it greatly!!

Olivo - If you have Endometreosis it will burn when you pee and some even complain of cramping discomfort when you pee. Both PCOS and Endometreosis are very common. If you are young then a doctor will not dx with endometreosis unless they this it is severe enough to operate - the reason why is because the only way to fully dx endometreosis is an endoscopy. PCOS is a totally different thing. Most drs can confirm PCOS with bloodwork. Your best option is to seek out an OB who can put you on a payment plan with limited cost. A walk in might be your best resource.
