This is scary because I recently saw a GYN who wants me on BCPs to help the problems I am having (besides the PCOS), and she is ordering bloodwork to determine whether I am likely to end up with blood clots or if I already have one because of a history of blood clotting in my family. She said we won't go the BCP route if I come up with being likely to end up with it but she's saying there's no other way to help the PCOS besides the BCPs (the cysts and irregularity of menses).

I had a stroke back in 1992 while i was on provera 2 days after i turn 16 and there no way i would ever take bcp pills. All my drs says i can never take hormones again. For my pcos i take metformin now and that helps with my periods. Before metformin i use to have one every two year in the past year i had 10.

wow, my dr. is reccomending bcp for me sa well, however mine is not doing any test or ever has for blood clots in me, or if i am at risk due to thick blood. she just hands me a pill pack and says take em. so I have been on the pill as a teen, and now am having to go on ot after a bad episode with yasmin. it gave me terrible black bruises and heart palpatations or irregular heart beat some would call it. i used to just lay in my best and hold my heart praying not to die cuz of that pill. and then i developed strange anxiety attacks because i was so scared of the heart palps. I am now off yasmin but have developed another cyst fairly large on my left ovary. shes gonna give me the pill again. if you look on the boards many cysters say they fell prey to blood clots from the pill, on other websites some have memorials up for their dead loved ones who died of clots and were "cysters" or pcos...one was only 21 the other 33. it was so sad. i know some woman get treatment from a drug called metformin or glucaphage, it stops cysts and symptoms some how, by reducing insulin? or sensitivity or something? I hope you get the treatment that is best for you. I would not always trust doctors though. they no they loose some and win some. thats just how they see it. ...its hard to find a good dr.
my dr. delivered both my kids...4 and 6 and just wants to throw me on the pill too, even after yasmin problems....and has never once checked my blood. even though your blood on yasmin should be checked every 3 months becuz of the potasium thing in it. just goes to show you.
hope this helps some...and be thankful for such a through Doctor.
    best of luck...siayae.

Siayae, can you ask for a bloodtest? I wouldn't feel comfortable getting on BCPs unless I had the test done first. What about a second opinion?

    Good luck to you.

Um, it might have been the patch that caused the blood clot. There are many claims & lawsuits against it now because so many people got blood clots. Even lawyers advertise on tv about it. I would go on a real low-dose bcp or the ring or get a copper IUD if pills were giving me clots. But thank you for warning us also, and giving us the "signs" that you felt...blood clots can be fatal, gals!

I had my bloodwork done today (I can't remember all the names of the tests, but there were quite a few...Protein S, Fibromyagin (not to be mistaken for Fibromyaglia), antihemosomething). I should know soon if I will be able to take BCPs.

    Unhappy blood clots

So I unfortunatly have very heavy bleeding.. and since then they put me back on the ring and I didn't want that cause of my legs falling asleep I wanted to get pregnant.. I still had extreme pain and so I went through so many tests and thats when they diaignosed me with PCOS just about a month ago. I'm still learning so much. I want off the BC because thats not fixing my pcos or anything else I have been having heart problems.. and so this week its time for first period with the bc and I was in so much pain last night I went to the ER it was unbearable. I used the restroom while waiting ot be seen and I past 5 or 6 blood clots bigger than a baseball. After that my pain was like nothing.. but I was seen anyways... and expain to them everything and they are like yeah.. your just on your period... go home.. but my new gyno is a jerk... he just says well stay on the BC and loose weight. Thats not fixing the unbearable pain that I keep having.. It keeps coming and I am bleeding so heavily that if I do go to work I will bleed through my pants. I don't know what to do. I don't have insurance. My husband is working out of town right now and he feels horrible that i'm in this alone. I think something is seriously going on down there and no one wants to help.. any suggestions? Has anyone else had huge blod clots like this? I can see if I had no period for months and then passed clots but I was bleed heavily for 7 months straight. and thats why he put me back on the BC. Everyone just looks at me like i'm crazy. I could really use someone to talk to and explain to me things or just chat with about PCOS. I feel so alone in this right now.
