Default Blood sugar and exercise...

For those of you with diabetes....when does exercise do the most good? I couldn't exercise while preggo (GD)...and now that I can I want to time it so it's the best for my blood sugar...

For instance...while preggo my 1 hour after bfast was the hardest to control...so....would it have been better to exercise before or after I ate? I was thinking if I could exercise around bfast I could minimize the stress breakfast puts on my pancreas...in the hope that it might delay full blown diabetes

Thanks!

Erin

I always try to exercise while my BS is high. Because exercise drops bs and could cause you to have a low bs episode. Before it got too hot, I would always exercise right after I ate supper. That way it wouldn't drop my bs too low and cause me to pass out or an get an extreme headache...I hope this helps and good luck. I wish I had been more careful when my OBGYN told me to start watching my bs years years ago...If I would've, I wouldn't be in the situation I am in now. If you are prediabetic, start watching what you eat and exercising now and it could prevent it or prolong you getting it...

Thanks for your response...I appreciate it!

I'm not prediabetic....yet...although my insulin levels are "generous"...my sugar is ideal...even on the low side...

I had such a hard time while preggo that I want to do everything I can do to prevent getting it full blown...the OB says I'll probably get it in 5-6 years if I don't do something now....scarey

Hello,

I had GD with my last son, who is about to turn 4. My endocrinologist told me if I didn't lose weight and eat right I would get type II. Well I was diagnosed with Type II this past spring. I so wish I would have listened and followed his advice.

I usually try to work the excercise about 1/2 hr after the meal just as the BG spike is getting toward it's peak (at the one hour point). It's like heading it off at the pass, kind of thing.
