Default blood sugar rollercoaster

Here's my situation: I've always been the type to get grumpy when I'm hungry. If I didn't eat, I'd get severely irritable and start to feel sick (light headed, dizzy, nauseated). Usually this would only happen if I delayed eating for about 30 minutes or more.

However, in the last month or two it's started happening much sooner. I'll realize I'm hungry, and a few minutes later I'm ready to puke. I'm so nauseas that I can't eat, and need to lay down. It's really hard to deal with when this happens on a nearly daily basis. I try to watch what I eat in order to keep my blood sugar from rollercoastering, but at the same time I don't want to be constantly eating.

I know that spiking and dropping blood sugar is what does it, but it's never happened in such a short period of time before. Could this have something to do with taking Metformin?

Does anyone else feel this way, this quickly? What have you try to fix it?

Default I am with you!

I realize I have to eat small amounts throughout the day to keep my blood sugar stable. If I don't eat enough I have the same problem as you do. I am a miserable mess. I link and balance my meals and eat string cheese, I drink Atkins shakes every morning for breakfast which contains alot of protein (20 grams). Protein for me seems to be the key, and not eating alot of sugar (or refined carbs) so I dont have the ups and downs of high and low blood sugar.

Good Luck!

I too had the same problem when I first started met. I had to eat smaller meals through out the day. I also kept glucose tablets with me for those times when it came on really fast, they seemed to help keep me from getting sick and would get me through the tough spot so I could eat. This lasted for about 6 months for me. My body seems to have adjusted now and I can eat regular meal with my family again.
How long have you been on the met?
Just remember that we all react diffrently to it.

I've been taking met for about 7 months or so. I never had any of the typical stomach upsets, so I figured that I was all clear. I'm trying to keep protein snacks with me, like almonds or other nuts. The glucose tablets sound like a good idea. I've seen them at the drug store before, but figured candy would do the same. (though it's probably best for me to steer totally clear of candy.....I'm a bit of a junkie)

I have an appointment with my doctor next week, so I'll be sure to mention it to him.
