Unhappy BMI of 18.2, will I ovulate ever? Help Please?

I was diagnosed on fri. August 20th with PCOS. I only have a BMI of 18.2. I have a fast metabolism and I am scared I will not ovulate even on clomid because of how skinny I am?

I was wondering if anyone with a BMI around mine has ovulated with the help of Comid? How good are my chances of getting pregnant on clomid?

Thank God for this website. I no longer feel alone. If anyone has helpful insight I would love to hear it

My BMI is 18, and clomid worked for me. Actually, it worked the first month. At first, when I had an appointment around the time I was suppose to ovulate, they felt clomid may not work for me and we were talking about other options. However, another test a few days later showed I was pregnant. Good luck to you!

I was diagnosed on July 2, started Metformin 1500mg and ovulated this month according to an OPK. I have never had a "positive" result on one before, so my guess is something is working! My BMI is 19.3 - I hope that gives you some hope!

I've been doing a lot of research into this and there now seem to be two schools of thought on this - either that it's not necessarily BMI which affects ovulation, but rather body fat (the traditional view), or rather that it's whether you take in sufficient calories for the energy you expend (through exercise etc) (the newer theory). To ovulate your body fat generally needs to be about 22%, although obviously there are exceptions to this. Needing to take in sufficient calories is a bit of a newer theory but is based on how your body needs a certain number of calories to keep going (your heart etc), a certain number for any exercise you do and a certain number for your menstrual cycle. If you take in enough for the first two but not the third, then your weight will stay steady but you won't have the energy to ovulate.

Sorry if that's a bit long winded, but I basically mean to say that a) it's not just about BMI - a lot of it is about fat (including the fat in your diet - you need some!), and b) everyone is different. 18.2 isn't that low at all - you may as well try to put some on if you can (it can only help!), but don't stress about it too much. Best wishes xx

Thanks guys so much for the responses. I have been drinking two ensure weight gain shakes a day... and last night I tried to eat a couple more bites of food than usual... only you feel so crappy after stuffing yourself

Its really funny because I am skinny bonded and I have no boobs at all but I have a butt and thighs! I feel like if I were too thin I would look like a stick.

I am going to def. check on the body fat thing. It makes perfect sense that you have to have enough fat for other functions first. I am also very relieved to know that it is possible to get pregnant on clomid... Hopefully a lot of prayers, yoga, healthy eating, and positive thoughts will get me a BFP!
