are Yaz and Yasmin BCP the same thing? I was just prescribed it for hirsutism and acne problems so i came here to look for experiences and information. However, in some posts it seems like these are two different things. One poster loved Yaz but was opposed to using Yasmin(no reason given).
Could someone clear this up for me so I can refine my searches?
I have had this question too. I think Yaz and Yasmin are essentially the same except Yaz has lower estrogen. My sister in law has been on both and she didn't really notice too much of a difference between the two. I tried Yasmin for a while and it made me ill, so now I am on Mircette which has made me feel like a new person! It isn't quite as harsh on your emotions as the Yasmin. Also, you may want to look into the Nuvaring. It was by far my favorite, but my insurance won't cover it and I can't afford it on top of other medications my insurance won't cover.
Yaz seems to have the best overall reviews, and I have not heard anything particualrly bad about it. Yasmin on the other hand, I can say form personal experience, was not a good fit. Sometimes it takes trying a few before you get the right one. Have your doctor look up BCP with low androgenic activity and see if there are some other options for the acne and hirstuism. I have both! So, I know your pain!!! Take care, be blessed, and hang in there!!!

I was prescribed Yasmin by an endocrinologist specifically for the anti-androgen in it. She mentioned that it was a strong one because Spiro and Met had not worked very well for me before. So, I was hoping that the Yasmin would help to lower my feelings of hostility and aggression that I have attributed to the imbalance of Testosterone to estrogen which she says is the cause of my hair loss, facial hirsutism and cystic acne....I sure hope I can cope with any side effects.
I don't need the pill for BC so I hope it will do it's job for the cosmetic reasons...
There is a difference between Yaz and Yasmin. I am not entirely sure what it is. I take Yasmin, and I love it. It has really helped with my extra facial hair and acne. I haven't had any bad side effects on it.

I took Yaz and hated it, I was either an emotional wreck or get mad at the littlest things. If I were you I would go to the website for each one and it should be able to tell you the difference of each one.

I'm pretty sure Yaz and Yasmin are the same but Yaz is a lower dose. And I am almost positive that it is the same company. I've been on Yasmin for years for hirsutism and acne and I love it. I warn you though that it will make your acne worse at first. Give it at least 4-5 months to see if you like it. At first it did make me moody but that went away too. My hair growth has slowed and it hasn't gotten worse. My acne has cleared and my skin isn't nearly as oily. The only problem is that is it getting soooo expensive without insurance.
i read up on Yasmin and discovered that it has the same ingredient as Spironolactone or Aldactone which i took years ago and stopped working for me. I don't need the BC factor of Yasmin so I stopped taking it after 5 days because of the terrible acne in places I'd never had acne before. Also, it caused a two week bleed which just stopped yesterday.
I'm going to see if my GP will let me try the Spiro again but maybe at a higher dose as I have no fertility issues(not ever looking to get preg.) but my main concern is the skin and excess facial hair issue. I'd prefer not to take a BC just because it happens to be built into a pill w/ an anti androgen....i'd really prefer to take flutamide for the hair and skin issues but may not be able to convince the doc...
