Board So Slow!!

Hi Kat,
I was just wondering if you were aware of any server issues that we may be having due to the increased presence of PCOS in the media? I'm on dial up and it took me three days to read your post about how cute SC babies were (I had to turn off my signatures)

Has anyone else noticed it and mentioned it? I did glance at previous posts in this forum so I'm sorry if I may have skipped over it.

Thanks again for all the hard work that you continue to bless us with!

LOL, glad I'm not the only one who was in limbo waiting for that page to open. To be fair, for dial up users graphic heavy threads are murder, but that was slower than usual. And it (along with any other thread) is even slower to load for me if I've looked at it before. It's a wonky little glitch.

No glitches. It was probably all of the photos. Especially if the problem was only related to one thread.

BTW, not all 'slow downs' are on this end. Sometimes it's your connection. Even if you have a 56k modem, you won't always log on at 56k. (I found this out back when I had dial up...)

oohh!! miss techie!! (I'd put smilies in but I'm afraid to slow myself down! heheeheh)

if you have a 56 k modem, do you know of a way to speed it up if it's running slower like around 45.2 kb when sc is the only thing running??

I'll have to call my ip too!

I've noticed it's on mult pages ....... like if i'm trying to load a few sc posts at a time.

Re: your modem, you have to call your isp. They are the ones not letting you log on at 56k. Shame on them!

You might want to check cable modem rates in your area...where I live it's the same rate at dial up.

Once we're out of cc debt we ARE getting DSL! I laughed to myself when you said that dial up is the same price as dsl where you are, cause you're in the 'big city' !!hehe, I'm in lil ole good ole rural us of a! hehe.. i hate not seeing all the great sigs but I'll sacrifice that for the speed for now.

btw, wanted to ask you something off this topic.... have you ever met Emme? Just curious cause they use the same type of bb here and she seems pretty down to earth..

other than the software upgrade, (for which we,, I am eternally gratefull for) How is your health? Work? Social life? Any 'personal' news?

Just wanted to know how you are doing.. btw, thanks for all the info on ir!

Cable costs twice as much here as what we're paying for dial up. Ugh.

I still don't understand how threads I've viewed before load slower than longer ones that I haven't seen yet. And when replying, forget about it. The lag is unbelievable. And it's only on SC. It's definitely odd.

SC is a VERY large board, and it's running on ONE dedicated server (a good server, but it's still running on one.)

Other sites that are getting MILLIONS of visitors are running on MULTIPLE servers to absorb the traffic.

Have you called your ISP and asked to have your setting optimized for surfing?

How much memory does your computer have?

What is your connection speed?

All of those things will affect how fast you're able to surf here with the graphics turned on.
