Thank you to everyone for their patience...I promise that it will all be worth it in the end.
While it doesn't 'seem' like anything has been going on, work has, in fact, been happening on a demo site on some custom mods that will be added here.
Because the mods are being written just for our site, they had to be tested in a non-live environment so that either meant shutting SC down, or working off-site...
MOD #1: Thread Image Mod
This module will change the way the RECIPES, PCOStories, and BOOKS forums work. Bob (the gent coding this) got this working yesterday, and it's a thing fo beauty - let me tell you. Once installed, pictures of the [recipes, cysters, books] will appear in the list of threads. It's kind of hard to describe, but trust me, it's nice, and worth the wait.
MOD #2: Recommended websites mod
Another thing of beauty... In the list of websites, you'll see a 'screenshot' of the website being recommended. When you post your thread, you just add the title, website url, and a description, and the mod will take care of the rest.
MOD #3: Thread prefixes
This was installed when the board originally upgraded, but for some reason it wasn't working. Scott got it working this week. The only place you can see it right now is in the BOARD FUNCTIONS forum, when you go to post a new thread. Those are demo prefixes, and will soon change. This will make searching in forums like SKIN PROBLEMS much easier, becuase we can now have prefixes for things like: ACNE, AN, HS, etc... to find all of the ACNE threads, you'll click on the prefix, and the acne threads will be the ones visible at the top of the forum. Very nifty.
MOD #4: Video Mod
Well...this isn't done yet, so I won't comment. I'm being told I'm asking for the moon with this one, but hey...nothing's too good for SoulCysters, right?
MOD #5: Sidebar Information
I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of the ads along the right side. Those will be filled with FAQ links, Blog updates, and other 'live' board info. I just have to wait until the mods get in place, so we can see the best way to feed the info with out putting a strain on the server.
Once the custom mods get in, I'll take a closer look at things like:
- vB Plaza
I glanced at it a few times, but there are a gazillion settings. I'll need a big pot of coffee, and some serious patience to figure that one out
- Groups
I've asked at the development site about "notifications" or "subscriptions". There's another thread here in board functions on this. currently, there are no notifications (dumb, I know), but I'm going to see what (if anything) can be created for this
- Moderators
I'll check all forums and delete any inactive mods, and set new moderators. DO NOT PM ME ABOUT THIS, OR START ANY NEW POSTS ABOUT THIS UNTIL I MENTION IT AGAIN. Any members who ask about moderating (before I start the mod stuff) will automatically be disqualified ("can't follow directions"
)
Ok...that's the big stuff. It's now peanut butter jelly time!
