I get sores on my body in the groin, leg, under breast and under arm area. it isn't acne,i don't think. it fills with(please forgive me) lots of pus and blood, then breaks( all size cloth bandaids are my best friends) and when it heals i have bad scars. i have noiced that while i have them all the time they are at thier worst around AF's visit. they are painful and embarrassing(cause of active ones and scarring).
does anybody with pcos have this? is it part of it?
Hi Jo
Yes I'm sorry to say I get something like these and I know of another lady with pcos who gets them.
I don't get AF very often but about a fortnight before I do I get all these large swollen red lumps similar to blisters filled with water or very dark blood. They itch like crazy, and can take weeks to go away (same as my horrible AF's).
They aren't like a normal spot/boil as I've had these in the past and there is a big difference. I just figured they are some kind of reaction to my hormones as it seems to me they are kinda like an allergic reaction. I'm sure if we look into this we'll probably find a proper name for them. I get all the other pcos nasties dark skin patches, skin tags, hair etc. so basically figured this was another one of those pcos things.
Anyway, you aren't alone..........hope that helps.....x

Is it possible that its Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS)? I've had some of those boil-like areas that ruptured, and now a spot under my arm that's draining, and after lots of reading, I think that's what I have (not as rough as some people have it, but not fun in any form). If you search within the skin problems forum on here, there's another long post about it. Good luck!!!

Hello,
I also have this skin problem, I have had it since I was about 15 (23 now). I was told it was follicultus and have been given antibiotics for it in the past but they have never worked, was just the other day diagnosed with PCOS and my Dr told me that the metformin and weightloss would help clear this up, hope this helps.
It sounds very similar to a boil. Occasionally, if it ruptures before the 'core' is formed, I'll get one that sounds like that. There's an OTC salve called Prid that really helps keep things clean and cleared up. Heads up, the main ingredient is beeswax (used to be tar, way back when), so it's super sticky and you will want a band aid over it. HTH!
I have had this, it is Hidradenitis Supporativa, since I was 9. (I am now 20) It goes along with PCOS. I have HORRIBLE cysts under my arms, under my breasts, between my thighs and on my belly. Mine have been there for years and never go away. I have been on Metformin for almost a year and Spiro for about 6 months with no change. I would suggest seeing either a dermatologist or an endocrinologist. If you want more information look up Hidradenitis Supporative, HS, or acne inversa.
I have this too. It sounds like what you're describing is Hidradenitis Supporativa. There are lots of posts on the forum about it. I have horrible, pitted, scars under my arms, under my breasts, and in the groin area from this. I've been on Met for about 2 years now and it doesn't seem to have helped at all. I think it is hormone-related as they get worse during different times of the month.

heloo, sorry it took so long for me to reply. i have been busy trying to get in to see the doctor and life has been hectic.
speaking of which, he would not believe me when i said the sores got worse during my cycle. then my hormone tests came back as normal and with that and my almost normal periods he is saying that it couldn't possibly be connected.
yet i am hairy as a gorilla, when i'm ovulating it feels like someone is scooping out my ovaries with a jagged spoon and these sores get worse during my cycle. obviously something is wrong.
unfortunately we have to travel to the big city here to see specialists and most times they only send you for serious illness, even then it's a toss up so seeing any specialist is pretty much out the window and with the doctor shortage i have no other doc i can see either.
too bad i will pay for it with my health.
thank you for your suggestions, it's appreciated.
My gyno never believed me either. You need to go see a specialist or at least a different doctor. I PROMISE you the HS (hidradenitis supportiva) is linked to your PCOS as well as your excess hair. I know what you mean about the ovary pain too. It is horrible.
You can also try herbal remedies there are many listed on this site. Just yesterday I was reading and I found a lot of people seem to have luck taking tumeric. 1 teaspoon mixed in 1/4 cup of warm water 3 times a day. I started it last night. It's not very pleasant but at this point I am desperate to do anything that will help cure these awful cysts.
I have also found relief with rubbing alchol (brown bottle) apply at onset and it will dry the spot out. I use it all the time, also using DIAL soap to bath with in the areas that you get them, helps out too. It is a bacteria thing too, so you can eliminate the sores by both of the these things.
I hope this helps out.
