Unhappy Boils!?!?!?!?

Why do I get these awful hurtful boils?? Ever since my teens I have gotten these boils and my mother told me it was because I have rich blood (whatever that means). Is it b/c of PCOS?? I get them between my legs (inner thigh) on my stomach alot if dh and I are playing around and he pinches my stomach I will get one. How can I get rid of them?? Sometimes they hurt sooo soo much. =( And they leave scars when they go away. I always said I get more acne on my body then on my face never had a face problem (knockin on wood), but it is so embarrasing.

Hi Linaa

Well, just take a look at my username! Yep, I get them too. Sorry to hear that you do (((hugs)))

Do see your doctor, a dermatologist is best, but any old doctor is better than none. In my case, and many other PCOSers cases it seems, it's a disease called Hidradenitis Suppurativa and it can get baaaad and WILL NOT go away on it's own. No matter what it is, it probably won't go away on it's own, so why suffer? Go to the doctor and try to get it treated.

And knock on that wood hard honey, 'cause you can get them on your face! I've had two there and have two horrible scars as a result.

It's funny that you mention that your mother thought they were because your blood was too rich. My grandmother always said it meant I had "bad blood" and needed to "clean my liver with some burr root". Later I did read of something called burdock root being used for liver cleansing and boils, but I couldn't take it (made me sooo ill!). Guess my grandmother was close though!

Lately what's been helping mine is "Monistat" brand "Soothing Powder". It's just cornstarch, aloe, mineral oil and zinc, but it seems to help dry them up and keep the skin around them soothed. Using a mild bodywash and avoiding tight/binding clothing helps, too.

Feel free to message me anytime if you need someone to talk to about these horrible things!
Dana

I had a boil one time on my leg and it hurt SO much. It even left a tiny scar that I still have. I feel your pain. i also have had cystic acne, is that the same thing??

i believe boils are hormonally related

It's amazing how many things are linked to PCOS that you just really don't think about! I've been dealing with so many little issues like this- yes, I get boils too!!- that you just almost forget what all you are dealing with!

I have to make a dermatologist appt to get rid of my skin tags that have popped out recently, so I am going to talk to him about HS.

Yes! I can hardly keep up with all of my stuff sometimes, I swear! And don't even ask me what meds I take... even I can't remember that list, I have to keep it written down in my wallet

Please do. It could be something else entirely that could be easily treated. Or if it is HS, we all need to be counted as this is considered a rare disease, if you can believe that. One glance at this forum could tell the medical community that probably isn't true

Anyone suffering from the lumps and bumps should take a look at "Mary's PCOS Treatment FAQ" at:
http://members.aol.com/marykateroget/
Not only are these treatment ideas great for PCOS, but also for HS. Recent studies implicate tumor necrosis factor alpha and androgens in HS. Find remedies in Mary's list that mention lowering those and give them a try if you can. I'm doing most of the vitamins and herbs in my sig for both HS and PCOS and so far it is helping

Big ((((hugs)))) for you Lina! If I remember your sig correctly (my memory is so poor lately!) you've literally just been diagnosed. Give yourself time to grieve and be angry. PCOS is a rough thing to get "used" to and, truth be told, you never really do get used to it 100%. I've known since I was 15 and I still get angry as h*ll sometimes! Just try not to be too hard on yourself if you can. PCOS runs in both sides of my family and I've noticed that with the weight issue some of us are just big from a young age and others don't get big until around puberty or their teens. One thing is for sure, we eat no more (and some eat much less) than the average person and exercise just as much, if not more. It's this biochemistry we've been given and it's not our fault.

It almost feels like we are aliens from another planet, doesn't it? We're just so different in such similar ways. I'm so thankful for this board and our ability to all get together, support each other, and feel "normal" if only for a little while. It's great!

Take care of you!
Dana
