Hi All.Im new to the site.I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1999 after a particularly stressful 2 years at university(many studies point to stress as the ingredient that allows COS to manifest itself).
After much research at the time, I discovered the insulin resistance connection etc
I found this book and followed the diet.I went from 221 pounds to 135(my normal weight) in 8 months(I did cheat on it for periods of time too!and it still worked

).
I had gained all that extra weight in only a year and a half!
I have known a handful of women who also followed it after they saw how it helped me.It worked for all but one, who said it was too hard for her to not eat her favorite foods.
My own experience has been that,if I maintain a low weight, I can eat some carbs and still do well. Its when my weight goes past 160 that my PCOS starts to show itself. As long as my weight is down,I seem to be fine.
I also do yoga on a regular basis and find that keeping my stress levels down and not overextending myself in life(ie not taking on too much-especially emotionally) really seems to influence my total sense of well being.
Unfortunately, with each of my 3 pregnancies,I have packed on weight at an insane rate in the last trimester,no matter what I ate or how active I was. So,of course,I am left with the arduous task of trying to lose it again afterward.
Im in such a spot right now.Trying to eat well and keep very active until I am done nursing my youngest before I embark on a very carb restricted diet.It is the ONLY way I can lose weight.
Anyways...this book was amazing for me.Its a very strict diet at first and requires that you go into ketosis(like Atkins-but this diet is low fat and not full of grease) but if you are miserable and want to have fairly quick results-it may work for you too
