Post Books on lean pcos

Good day ladies!

Since it is believed that lean pcos should perhaps be treated differently from classic pcos I wonder if you know if there are any books out on how to treat lean pcos? Since it's not about weightloss for us and maybe not as much about ir, I wonder if you've read anything lately on relative low estrogen compared to normal levels of testosterone, etc. I thought I'd just ask and see if you got something for me!

Hopefully looking forward to your suggestions

There might not be any books, but there's plenty of research at PubMed.

Keep in mind that while you're overall body weight might be low, your visceral fat could still be an alarming level...

What would your bloodwork show if that's the case? Wouldn't you have high estrogen (estrogen dominance)?

What blood test can tell you if you have visceral fat?

Of interest: Fat distribution affects PCOS metabolism regardless of body weight

I find this interesting because I have polycystic ovaries, high LH, acne and mild hirsutism.

However, I only gain weight on my thighs and butt when I do put on a few pounds. My waist stays thin.

I guess I am an unusual case. Anyone else?

Nope, for me its all about the belly! No matter how much weight I lose, I always have a jelly belly. Would also be interested if lean pcos should be treated differently.

I'm the same as you ttcincal! I have a bubble butt (all my life) but I'm still thin around the waist/stomach and upper body.

I'm on Metformin even though I don't have IR. I have gotten 1 period and I'm waiting for the 2nd as we speak (a few days late now). My endo still thinks Metformin is the way to go, but I'm mentioned cyclic progesterone to him as well... he said if I don't like the Met, he's happy to switch. I'm giving the Met a good try though since really, he's the expert and I'm just doing research on PubMed.

I just did some searches on pubmed and didnt find much about thin people with pcos. I found 10 results, only 2 about thin people. The interesting one was this one if anyone ever wants to see.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9...ubmed_RVDocSum

just another thing saying pcos is caused by insulin issues and that metformin seems to reduce testosterone and increase SHBG in thin pcosers.

Ok that was a lie, I found another cool one. Im sure Kat already posted these at some point but heres one saying metformin usually makes thin cysters ovulate and get pregnant within 3 months. Who cant use positivity right? It even seemed to show that we respond to met better then heavier pcosers.

Ha, I had an appt last week with my endo and I brought up met (I wanted to know if she thought that exercising, taking chromium and eating cinnamon might have some effect as well), and she didn't know that it was given to patients with lean pcos too. And then she did a little search on pubmed(!), and was like, oh well, you're right. Lol, sc = knowledge = power. Or something like it, eh?

Great article Fruitsy! If I want to ttc in the future and experience difficulty I'm gonna print this out for my endo and hopefully I'll get a BFP in three months time after that

I just always see people on here asking if thin cysters have it harder or if met works for us, and Kat has lots of good articles about it. But this one seemed so positive lol.
