Has anyone else had problems with brain fog? My memory is rotten (especially short term) and I am not as sharp as I used to be.
I am on Paxil which I don't think helps, but have been on metformin 1500mg for a month now, which helps with energy.
Anyone found any helpful supplements etc?
Thanks
Katy

Paxil was a drug from hell, for me anyways, my dad took it and was just fine, for me it through me straight into the hospital I went totally bonkers, when they let me out I was put back on it, a week later I od'ed
but like I said that was just me, everyone reacts differently to drugs.... also in that time of my life, from about 17-19 I dont really remember anything, I remember big major events that happened, but other then that nothing. I rememeber everything up to 17, and everything after 19 but inbetween nothing, and at that time I was on a lot of different pills for depression, bipolar, then depression again (( I swaer the drs just needed to decide on a Dc. and Id have been way better off))
anyway, it could just be from lack of sleep, or even stress, stress can do crazy things to you, even your eating habits might have something to do with it, but if your concerned just talk to your dr, maybe you need a differnet dose, or another type of med....
edited to say : as for supplements, try womens one a day

hubby calls me goldfish because he claims that's how long my memory is, the amount of time it takes for the goldfish to swim around the bowl.
I don't know what kind of suppliments would help, but I know they make them... go to GNC or one of those stores and there should be a section with info.
I just take a one-a-day prenatal that has helped me sleep thru the night surprisingly... I guess I was lacking and didn't know it.
Oh my goosdness!!!! I seriously suffer from brain fog and am SOO forgetful. Could this be related to PCOS?? I would love to know what doctors say about this~~~
btw I couldn't take Paxil either. It made me hear things that werent there!
I have CFIDS as well as PCOS, so I am never sure if the brainfog is due to that or the PCOS. I get it badly at times... go through long periods of it where it feels as if my brain is barely functioning. I have a terrible long-term memory... I cannot remember whole conversations that were important and that I had 2 weeks, a month, 3 months ago... I find it frustrating because it makes me feel so slow and I worry slightly that I am vulnerable to people taking advantage of me because I can't remember stuff correctly!!!

Brain fog is common for us - just wait 'til you're pregnant; it gets even worse!
Often our deficiencies are so severe that a plain multivitamin won't make up for them. I supplement with other vitamins (see my siggie). The B-complex and Essential Fatty Acids will help with brain fog and energy. You won't notice a difference right away, but you will eventually.

Thank you so much - I will keep on going with B vits and fish oil. I read that it takes at least 3 months for dietary changes to take effect. I am starting to swim this week too which I hope will help.

I have a quick question? Can you have brain fog at any point in time.. the reason I ask is this.. I was playing card the othe rnight with hubby and a friend, and I guess I had said something or other. I told them I didn't say it, and they both said yes I did.. my memory lapses sometimes from a minute to a couple days without being able to remember certain things.. I think I am going insane..
This all seems very familiar! I have a terrible short term memory and I'm not quite sure what constitutes brain fog, but my concentration is appaling. I'm studying at the mo and I thought it was because I'm a "mature" student (24), but I thought that this would have improved with time, but if anything, it's getting worse!
I've always worked well under pressure, so have often used this to get better results from myself, but even that isn't working any more! I don't take any supplements, perhaps I should start!

This symptom by far was the most annoying for me when I was so ill. Now that my hormones are under control I don't have it (except when I don't eat right, then I just want to sleep (wierd huh?) Metformin ER (extended release generic) has helped me tremendously. The fog started clearing about 2-3 months after being on this drug. I felt like I was totally walking around in a cloud most of the time. The world existed but I was almost unaware. I am an accountant and talk about thinking I was losing my mind. (I actually mentioned to my husband that I thought I might have alzhemiers (at 34) My great grandmother was diagnosed with it and it often skips generations! I wish doctors could figure out what our hormones have to do with the brain function (my husband has some insulin issues, I believe from his high blood pressure meds, but never complains of this symptom interesting huh?) I have been on Metformin for 4 1/2 years and am a new person.

I am not on anything and since I was about 18, I have really noticed "brain fog" too. I have a terrible memory, for instance. The other day, I asked my boyfriend where he put my brush. He had to tell me THREE times! And, once I got in the room where he put it, I forgot what I was looking for. I am 25, I cannot think of any reason I should have dimentia. I always lose words too. I'm always saying, you know, that thing! Its purple, what's it called?!? It's embarrassing!

I was diagnosed with PCOS just last week. Didn't know anything about it. I had never even heard of it. But I have been trying to learn everything I can, so I did a google search for "PCOS memory," just to see if my "fuzzy brain" as I call it could be attributed to PCOS, and I found this thread.
For about four years I have suffered from this fuzzy brain syndrome, and it can be really embarrasing sometimes. I am a reporter, and I will be talking to someone and I'll get stuck mid-sentence because I cannot think of the word that I need, no matter how simple it is. It is SO frustrating.
My husband will mention something about something that happened or something that someone said and I will have no idea what he is talking about, and it's frustrating to him, too. I always have to say something like "No, I don't remember that, but I believe you that it happened."
I can totally relate to being worried about being taken advantage of because of this problem. I have the same feelings.
To me, it kinda feels like a brick wall between me and the rest of the world. I have been so worried and frustrated about this, and would have never had any idea that it is caused by the same thing that has caused my infertility, my weight gain and bad skin. What a strange thing this syndrome is.
Does this symptom let up if you do everything you are supposed to? I am willing to do ANYthing to get my brain back.
This is my first post on this board, and I am so glad to find it.
I always have to say something like "No, I don't remember that, but I believe you that it happened."

I absolutely do that... it's so frustrating. I feel like a crazy woman.
Welcome to the board Emily!!

me too! I really hate this and my insulin is under control from Met... so I can't understand why I still have this. I used to be calm, cool and collected under pressure and now have trouble with memory and feel overwhelmed alot at work. It really has affected my confidence and I, too have wondered if I have something like Alzheimer's.. I'm thinking of talking to my RE about it and see if he has any thoughts..
