Smile Brand new, taking Metformin

I was just diagnosed last month with PCOS and I am really glad that I found this site, it actually feels better to write this and to see other women with the same condition and in the same boat I am in.

I never really feel like I am overweight because I have always been a little overweight my whole life. I never had regular periods ever! When friends said they had their periods every 28 days I thought that was strange and a hassle. I never knew when mine would show up. I wrecked numerous pairs of panties because it would just show up one day without warning.

I was on depo for almost 10 years in my late teens and early 20's and did not have my period at all but my doctor said that was normal for that kind of birth control. I felt deep inside that something might be wrong but did not know what it could be.

I do not have hair loss, just a couple hairs on my chin that I pluck once in while. I have hair on my stomach but thought that was because a friend in high school shaved her stomach I did to and thought that caused the hair growth. I have hair on my toes and I still get pimples at 29

I want to have a kid when I am 30 so I decided to see my doctor to make sure everything was normal, after talking to her she sent me for blood tests. I do not have diabetes but my testosterone was a little high, I do not have high blood pressure either. I am actually really healthy other than I wish to be 20 pounds lighter.

When I went for my ultrasound I have large clusters on my ovaries that were really noticeable. My doctor put me on Metformin starting at a smaller dose then increasing to 1000mg that I am at right now. I have not had any side effects from this drug at all but it has been 64 days since my last period and have no idea if I even ovulate.

I am meeting with a specialist on April 24th to see what my next step will be.

I am really glad that I could share this information, I already feel better

Thanks for sharing! There is a whole entire thread devoted to Metformin if you ever want to check that out. It is very informative and interesting. Let us know what happens at the specialist. Good luck

Oh wow, thanks for sharing your story. I didn't even thing about the hair on my stomach I did the same thing in highschool and I figured that is why I have the hairs there, I too have the hairs on my chin that I pluck and I also have hairs on my upper lip that I have to Nair. I have pimples still too that drive my bonkers...I really hope there will come a day that I can look at myself in the mirror and say "wow I don't have a zit on my face today". I haven't been put on any meds yet. Has the metformin helped with the pimples at all? This seems to be my biggest issue for some reason.

It is so funny, we live with these symtoms for so long that we think that it is all just normal. A new pimple is born on my face every morning. I do think that it is helping me out though. I have not noticed as many pimples as of yet. I read all these stories of horrible side effects of this drug but have none of those problems. When my doctor told me that I would get my period regular again I had to ask what was regular. I still have not got it and I think that it is day 70 since my last one.

Thanks...I wish there was a magical pill to take the zits away. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only women with hair on her stomach, I am very self-concious about it!!! I tend to pluck the hairs and hope they don't grow back but they ALWAYS do!!

Red face

I'm new to SC but was diagnosed with PCOS in 2006. I didn't understand what it was and all my doctor at the time said I could do to help conceive was to lose weight. At that time time I wasn't too overweight. I could defintely lose 25 to 30 lbs though By the middle of 2008 I had gained A LOT of weight. I joined a gym, dieted, did everything. I just thought I wasn't doing enough. Then in February of this year I got a BFP! The first ever. I ended up m/c. I got a new doc when my former one said my pregnancy was eptopic without even an u/s! The new confirmed my PCOS and I am on my 7th day of 1000mg of metformin. Hoping to get AF soon.
