Default Brand new and thrilled at all the awesome information!

I just found this site and am very happy to have a place to get more info!

I was diagnosed with PCOS after a horrendous year and a half of being put through the medical wringer!! I think I have seen every kind of specialist they offer a degree for! What led me to my wonderful Ob/Gyn was an unbearable pain in my lower abdomen. After MRI's and Gastro work-ups and you name it they did it to me.... my doc said, you know what... let's do laproscopic and see what the deal is!
August of 2007- I had massive cysts removed from both ovaries and several masses of excess scar tissue taken out. Instantly pain free. My doc said the pain is from that scar tissue and from possible nerve damage from the botched C section delivery of my 2nd son 6 years ago....
I had severe hypertension with him and after a scheduled, uneventful (and 2nd- 16 months after the first) Csec delivery I had deep tissue bruising than went from mid chest to my knees!
Doc says the painful sensations may be from the aftermath of that but I'm still uncertain and often experience a sensation like my lower belly is not attached to the rest of my body!
Anyway- 'You have PCOS' he said and I am just now getting a handle on what that means and how to deal with it. I have never had regular periods- often going several months between cycles or taking breaks mid-cycle. I had a total change in metabolism and packed on excess pounds when my boys were 3 & 2, despite honest efforts to lose it. Within the last few years, my very dark hair has spread to non-feminine places like my chin, upper lip and belly and I have gotten pimples for the first time in my life. Yup I have PCOS.
Within the last month I have been started on 1500 mgs of Metformin, been given a diet and exercise program intended to help me go from 225 to 180 lbs (at least), and feel on the right track for the first time in a very long time. And mind you, the majority of the docs I see are military and not very "woman friendly"- I am (for 10 more months) the dependant wife of an active duty naval officer.
Many posts have led me to be amazed with how knowledgable you all are and how willing to help and share too! I still am concerned with several issues... like the fact that I am Insulin Resilient but have HYPOglycemia... have to eat very frequently to keep BSL up.... is Metformin still a good choice for me?
I am experiencing digestive/gastrol problems and inflammation of the sigmoid colon which leads to severe bouts of bathroom campouts and major discomfort.... do others have similar problems? Could that be part of it or another issue to deal with?... The hair growth has gotten bad on my face and is very noticeable as it is very dark and very coarse- I've tried lots of removal methods but have resolved to shaving my lip and chin (with high end shave cream) every single day and my body every other day.... is that level of hair growth normal with PCOS? What will change it? Any advice on removal or prescription methods to help?... I've had several skin tags removed in the last few months and the acne is very spontaneous and I've always had clear skin.... this is normal side effects of PCOS too? Anything help with that?
Like I said I am certainly on the right track and I think that finding this forum can only help! I really look forward to sharing with you all and best wishes for a happy and successful 2008!

like you i am a military wife although i dont deal mostly with military doctors i do deal with the ones either tri care goes with or the ones i can see (i dont have a choice i live on an island) i was diagnosed with pcos after getting married and packin on the lbs getting acne and hair. mine isnt too bad on my face but i find it is very dark and course on my stomache arms and legs i only get a little bit on my face ive tried alot but though this is painful i find waxing helps with the stomache hair and plucking helps iwth the facial i dont know if you have tried those things you may have. everyones pco is different in one way or another but i know diet helps minimize acne .
after my c section i went through the same thing to get a diagnosis (i moved and they couldnt get my medical records i was pregnant when i moved here so they did nothing for my pco ) i saw lots of doctors for the pain i coudnt exxplain it well enough i just new it wasnt JUST the c section they were going to give me an mri and lyposopy and all that stuff they were trying to tell me i had somethign wrong with my colon i new it wasnt that. as far as the irretable bowl goes i find that what i eat has everything to do with how bad it is. it is also a side effect of metformin i know its worse for me on metformin. coming to this site is a very smart move .. do as much research as you can there are many sites. with this syndrome knowledge is power. you will know alot more than the doctors that treat you.
good luck
