Also, there are ways to induce lactation yourself, if you want to bf your adopted baby. There's a drug called Domperidone that I used. I had a very very very low milk supply (1 or 2 oz a day production, max), and with Domperidone my production upped to 35 oz a day. Not enough to feed both babies so I used some formula, but better than nothing. It can even make men lactate! If you're interested in knowing more, let me know.
Lots of adoptive mom's breast feed themselves. I half way thought about it but felt kinda odd about it, plus at the time of the birth I was so stressed out I was so worried about him not staying with us.

I never even considered it. Can't go off my medication which you can't breastfeed while on.

I worked at Motherwear for a little bit, and there were quite a few moms who were preparing to breastfeed their adopted babies-- in fact, the founder of the company breastfed all of her babies-- whether biological or adopted. She actually started actively looking for matching mother/baby outfits so taht people would stop asking if that breastfed baby was hers! I have heard the best way to attain milk is to just nurse with a supplemental nurser (a tube you attach to the side of your nipple that is attached to a bottle hung around your neck). Some lesbian moms I met also do that, so both of them can experience nursing.

Interesting, I have heard of that. I have one biological child and I didn't even make enough milk for her.... Maybe I should have tried some of these ways!
