just curious; if a diabetic mother breastfeeds, will the baby's milk be too high in sugar?

The milk should be perfectly fine. Breastfeeding lowers baby's risk of diabetes in the future and also improves insulin sensitivity in the mother (and lowers risk of Type 2, unless of course you already have it. )
