Breastfeeding an Adopted Child?

I read something that websissy wrote in a post below about breastfeeding an adopted child, and my mom has also mentioned this to me.

I was just wondering if any of you have breastfed a child (ren) that you adopted. And how old is "too old" to try and change a baby from the bottle to the breast? Our baby from Russia will probably be between 5 - 8 months old, and I can't imagine a baby switching to the breast after being on a bottle that long. Especially since breastfeeding is more difficult for a baby than sucking from a bottle.

Lisa - thank you SOOO much!!!! My sister just had a baby in May, and she is here visiting with her new little girl. I watch her breastfeed and I wonder if I'll ever be able to. Thank you for sending me this great link!

My best wishes with your efforts on that! I've heard many women are successful and it's a wonderful, bonding, nurturing experience for both mother and baby.

I had looked into it and was planning on adoptive breastfeeding, even if just a few ounces a day, supplemented with formula, just for the bonding. But once we had two babies, I knew I couldn't give either of them the amount of milk needed, with that much effort going into it. We're starting the process for #3 and this future child being a single arrival...well, I'm looking at the Four Friends website again. Thanks for posting it, Lisa.
