Question Breasts leaking 4 days after m/c?

I had a shock tonight as I was watching tv with DH and my left breast was wet. It happened several times tonight and the right one has leaked a few times too. So is my body just thinking that I had a baby a few days ago and my milk is coming in? I was 10 weeks pregnant. I had the d&c on Monday. I totally started bawling when I realized I was leaking. It just felt like such a slap in the face, a new pregnancy symptom NOW! My breasts have been hurting more the last few days, I guess this is why.

I am also still spotting. But it seems like the blood is watery. Not the usual period spotting.

So has anyone else had their breasts leak after a miscarriage?

TIA

I had this happen. I lost my baby at 18 weeks and a few days later they started leaking...your body is saying that the baby is here and needs milk. It was so sad for me I was pissed. Try wearing a sports bra (the tighter the better) also this may sound weird but cabbage helps them to dry up fast as well. I am so sorry for your lost you will be in my thoughts.

I lost my little guy at 19 weeks and the doctor informed me then that this could happen like said before.(Your body is trying to be ready to feed a baby). It deffinently is a shock to the system and hard on us. My dr sent me home with a few rolls of ace bandages and said to have my dh wrap me pretty tight but I did the tight bra thing because the ace bandages drove me insane. Also when you are taking a shower try to avoid having water hit directly on your breasts because this helps with what they call "let down" and will make more milk instead of drying you up. I found a web site that may be of help for you. You can find it at............
http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pre...lrecovery.html

If not it says..
Quote:
.What can I expect physically after a miscarriage?

It takes a few weeks to a month or more to recover physically from a miscarriage. Your recovery will depend on how far along you were into the pregnancy. Some women experience the following physical effects:

* Vaginal bleeding, similar to a menstrual period, may last up to a week after a miscarriage.
* Light bleeding, or spotting.
* Depending on your menstrual cycle, normal periods should resume in 3-6 weeks.
* Lower abdominal pain similar to menstrual cramps may last up to 2 days after the miscarriage.
* Breast discomfort, engorgement or leaking milk; ice packs and a supportive bra may relieve discomfort. This discomfort usually stops within a week.
* Some pregnancy hormones remain in the blood for one to two months after a miscarriage.
Also WIC once told me that putting cabbage leafs in your bra helps dry you up quicker. I had some much leakage I had to wear breast pads for a week.I didnt learn of the cabage until after the fact.

Sorry to hear you are going through such a emotional time right now. I will keep you in my prayers. If you ever need to talk pm me anytime. Take care of yourself. Lesia

Browneyedgirl,
I am soooo sorry you are going through this...your post made me cry.
I also had an M/C at 10weeks I didn't leak but I still had the "pregnant feeling" for a while afterwards...................IT IS SO HARD!
Thinking of you,

Thanks for the information. My breasts are very sore today. They feel heavier & bigger too. Not fun since I am already a DD. I have a scrapbook party at my house tonight. Only a few of the girls know that I lost a second pregnancy. I thought if I leaked and it showed then I could just blame it on all of the hormones the doctor is giving me. All of them know I am going through fertility treatments to get pregnant. I am going to get some breast pads today. I just hope this means when I finally do have a baby that my milk comes in good and I can make plenty of milk. I have always worried that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed, since a lot of my friends give up because they say they never made very much.

I am still on Vicadin, you would think that would help with the breast pain, no luck.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Mine came in big and bad four days after my 23 weeker. I was so upset! I had been advised to wear a tight bra 24/7 and ice them down if they were aching. I only did that once, and it did feel good. They were really full and tender the day of our memorial service with all of the hugging. I needed the hugs, though! Hormones will mess with us every chance they get, I think. Sorry about that!! (((Hugs))) I hope you feel better soon.

My breasts leaked a couple of days after I lost my baby at 22 weeks . The hospital gave me a "binder " ,but it was too scratchy , so I went with the sports bra . It made me so mad , I cried everytime I saw the milk come out.
I'm so sorry you have to go through this (((Hugs))) .

Ugh - this is the suckiest reminder an angel's Mommy can get, I think. My milk came in a few days after losing Rivi. It took about a week for them to dry up.

I'm sorry you're going through this, too.

Thanks for the hugs. I was not told by the doctor or nurse that I might leak. They still feel like someone used them for a punching bag for a hour. But it doesn't look like they are still leaking. DH bought the nursing pads for me and at the checkout it automatically printed out a baby formula coupon.... I am going to tell them on Monday about the leaking breasts and that I passed a large clot tonight. I guess that is why I was cramping so bad again. Am I still supposed to be bleeding and passing clots a week later after a D&C???

My mom said, so you are still having your period? No mom. It's not a period, I am recovering from a pregnancy! I think she is still uncomfortable with my grief and just wants me to "get over it". At least I have a few good friends that are more supportive.

browneyedgurl-I was so sorry to see that you too m/c'd. I was pregnant the same time and recently miscarried too. I was scheduled for the D&C today, but this passed weekend it happened naturally. OH was that horrible. Last time i had the D&C and it was difficult emotionally, but i felt better physically in a few days. I still feel bad and am bleeding and cramping alot. I saw your question about clotting after the D&C,I am not sure if you are supposed to pass clots after the D&C especially because i thought it was all taken out from the surgery. i would call your dr. and check. If you don't mind me asking what kinds of tests are they going to do? This is also my 2nd m/c so my RE is checking my husband and i for genetic issues and then he said after my HCG levels are at 0 (they were 542 on monday) he is going to do some other tests, one being a blot clotting disorder and i am not sure what else. This just sucks and i know you know how this feels. i am sorry about your loss and know there is nothing i can say to make it better, but lets hope our tests will figure out what is going on and this will never happen again. Thank goodness for modern medicine and dr's who are at least trying to help. Hang in there.

TTCcheer-I have noticed too that we were both pregnant with our first and second pregnancies at the same time. My first was with twins and I had the miscarriage at home too. My second was with a singleton and I had a D&C. I thought it was interesting that we had the same thing experiences except reversed. The miscarriage at home did seem to take a lot longer and recovery seemed longer. But this D&C has been hard too, 2 large clots and lots of pain in my uterus. I also had my milk come in on Friday and I am still leaking every day. Today when I was getting ready for my babysitting job, my DH gasped at how wet my pajamas were. I didn't even know.

It looks like the doctor didn't really get all of the "tissue" during the surgury. I stopped bleeding on Monday and (a week later) and I had a horrible migrane today. My body is still not "normal".

My doctor tested the baby for chromosone defects (no results yet) and we are being tested for blood clotting disorders and another one to see if my DH and I have any other problems. I too want ANSWERS! This pain would be a little relieved if I knew there was a treatment like heparin that would reduce my risk of this happening again.

We have both been through a lot and on clomid and Repronex shots. We just want a baby. It shouldn't be this hard.

Take care,
Stacia

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember having very sore, hard, full breasts after my 17 week loss. Eight months later, I had leaking after after my 16 week loss. They hurt so bad, I was on 800 mg of Motrin, and that didn't really help. I made the mistake of taking a nice lonnnnnnnggggg hot shower. DON'T do that. After my shower they leaked uncontrollably. They looked like they were two sizes bigger (they're already huge). I was so miserable I couldn't even sleep. I used ice packs, but they just leaked so much. I couldn't stand the tight fitting bra because it hurt so much. I was in tears. I had to end up using a breast pump to relieve the pressure, then immeadiately put on ice packs and a tight bra then wrapped an ace bandage around me. After about a week they were better. They would still leak a little during the course of they day but, nothing serious. I also leaked a little after my 11 week loss back in October.

I hope you are getting some relief.

Have you gotten your baby's test results back yet. Hopefully they can find a cause. It sucks not having any answers.

Wishing you peace and healing,

Gina-Thanks for your words, it really is hard to have sore breasts with no baby. I have quoted your siggie to my DH and a few friends. I even quoted you to my therapist today, she thought it was beautiful.

I have had a migrane for the three days off and on, mostly on. They think it's all the hormones that are out of whack. You think??!

I have not heard back from the doctor if they got any answers from the baby. They close at noon and I was making lunch for the kids I babysit and I forgot. Now I have to wait until Monday for a response! I am going in on Monday for blood work to find a cause for our losses. I pray that this will give us answers and we can move forward with a little confidence.

I miscarried in July & my breasts are still leaking. My prolactin levels aren't high enough that they will treat it either.
Although they leak less than they did it's still sad.
I'm sorry you are experiencing this and hopefully it will end soon.

Thank you Browneyed gurl!
I came up with that at a support group after my second loss. One of the Moms asked me how I could have even thought about trying again after my first loss. Those words just came out, I remember thinking, did I just say that? So, I decided to put it in my siggy. I needed to remind myself that I couldn't give up and I wanted to encourage others who were feeling what I felt.
