Brisbane Pcos'ers

Hello forum,

My daughter has severe pcos, so much so that she has turned into a recluse and is even too embarassed to go to the doctor. Would anyone know of a GP or Pcos specialist in Brisbane, that is in a fairly quiet area, with a not-too-busy waiting area? I have to find somewhere where she would be comfortable going, as she really needs help.

Unfortunately she has severe symptoms, on her face, which is why she rarely leaves the house. Her once clear skin now has extremely large, dimpled pores on her nose & cheeks. She tells me she does not feel 'normal'. Of most concern to me is the hirsuitism. There is a very thick layer of blonde hair which covers most of her face right up to her eyes - even the bulb of her nose has blonde fuzz on it. From research, this does not seem to be just pcos, so I want to get her tested for insulin resistence asap.

It is truly heartbreaking to see her going through this, without medical help, so I would appreciate any information you can offer on good dr's, or symptoms etc

Hi Kate

By the sounds of it you could benefit by taking your daughter to an endocrinologist. My suggestion is Dr Winnifred Lee on Wickham Terrace. She is really good and very personable. You will need a referral from a GP.

Just wanted to add that if you can't get into Dr Lee, another wonderful endocrinologist is Dr Geoff Moore (Wesley Hospital). He is a very caring man with a wondeful manner, and knowledge as well!!

Is there anyway that your daughter would join in here to chat to others? It might help her to know that she isn't alone and receive support when she wants it (although I think you are a wondeful Mum looking out for her

)

I can't help you with a GP, as mine is in a busy area although she is very caring, it might be too busy for your girl to want to go there. Although she does work until 6pm and it is usually much quieter after 5:30pm. She is in Capalaba so depending on your area if you want her number just let me know and I will send it through to you.

at the Royal Womens hospitial. or the gyn outpatient department. the do take public patients.

Hi,

Im a Kiwi PCOS'er but just wanted to say what a wonderful Mum you are.

I hope you find a great Dr for your daughter, I also wanted to add if possiable try to get into see a Endocrinologist like Mandi and Indi recomended. I think it saves alot of time as they specialize in PCOS and all the related symptoms.
