I have brown, patchy spots of skin (which I guess is acanthosis nigricans) on my neck and between my breasts. I started Metformin and Weight Watchers but it hasn't changed at all. How have others gotten it to go away? It's mostly just dark, not thick, though the area between my breasts and sometimes the area right below my breasts will get thicker.

Mine went away after a few weeks when I started taking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (organic, unfiltered) before lunch and before dinner. Then by the time I stopped doing acv shots it stayed away because I had completely eliminated corn syrup, sugar, and refined carbohydrates from my diet.
Nicole, do you take the ACV straight & undiluted? I'm not sure I could get it down without gagging.
My acanthosis nigricans isn't too bad. It's bumpy strips right in the crease of my underarms, and then outside the creases about 1/2 inch on each side, it is just brown. It just showed up about two years ago along with some other symptoms of IR. It has not gone away with Met and 30 lbs of weight loss. I've heard if you get to a "normal" weight, it may go away.
Since AN is most often caused by problems with the insulin, it usually requires those issues to be taken care of first. The key doing this is limiting carbs and losing weight.
Even then, it may take some time to fade. I'm not sure it really every completely disappears from every place on the body.
For me, it took three month of carefully watching my carb intake and regular exercise before mine started to fade and they still didn't disappear completely.
I wonder if the Weight Watchers diet is the ideal one for you to be on right now? I say that because you can pretty much have anything you want on Weight Watchers as long as you watch your points.
From what I've seen for us PCOSers, though, the most success seems to come from a diet with limited carb intake, and making sure that the carbs we do eat are the complex ones.
The Weight Watchers diet can be tailored to a low carb style, but if it’s not, it might not be the best choice.
I've read that drinking vinegar can help with insulin sensitity, which may be why Nicole had success with it.
