BUPA warning for those of you having treatment via them
Just thought I would have a rant about BUPA and warn any of you that are using them for your treatment
I was approved to see my consultant in September and was told that as long as my treatment was not for fertility purposes I was fine to see him as long as my limits had not been spent also. However after having to move my follow-up appointment I called them to check if I would have to pay another excess as my follow-on is early next year - I have now been told that they will only pay for initial diagnosis of pcos and no further treatment/follow-ups will be paid for.
I now find myself either having to pay £175 each time I need a check-up or go back to the nhs where the consultant I saw at my local hospital admitted he knew very little about pcos. I'm so frustrated - I've spoken to my work as it is company BUPA but they have basically said take it up with BUPA. I've spoken to a supervisor at BUPA who has clarified that no further treatment can be authorised as pcos is chronic and cannot be cured.
I would have just asked my gp to refer me to another hospital in thefirst place if I knew that I would end up back at square one.
aww how annoying!!!! Could you ask your gp for another referral through the nhs?? Paying £175 a time, is a lot of money. Hope you can get it sorted out soon.

I completly sympathise with you, I had exactly the same problem. I was told that it wasn't covered as it was fertility related, and when i tried to argue the case that it effected more than fertility I was told, there was no treatment, except for conception!!!
This happened both with medisure and AXA

Hmm.. I was diagnosed privately, never trusted the NHS.. they screwed me around too much but we don't have any sort of insurance.. it's a pricy road to take.
Seems odd that they wouldn't cover something like this though.. I mean, it's a syndrome that needs treatment... argue quality of life and all that... you know? hell, i'm crippled three days a month without my medication. It's not about the fertility issues, that's not what pcos is.. but alas.. most people seem to think that's all there is to it. We need more education!
