Where I'm originally from isn't far from where the bus killing happened yesterday, and it's left me feeling rattled. It's all over the national news, too, and people are talking about it on the streets. I just feel so shaken about it!

On a TTC Break after 3.5 years
Hubby has hyperthyroidism, with T4 at 85 (normal 22) and T3 at 35 (normal 6.5)
July 2009 - Radio Active Iodine - Failed. Did not kill off enough thyroid.
In Seattle about 6-7 years ago I was on a bridge. The bridge is 150 or so feet in the air. So deranged mentally ill man took over a bus with a gun and ran it off that bridge. I think he killed some people. The bus was mangled. I have not been on a BUS since. I have post -traumatic stress about it.

I wouldnt be suprised, apparently he kept to himself a lot. It has shocked everyone here, in constant conversation, a couple of friend of mine knew the guy who got killed. I am definatly detered from ever taking a greyhound again. Its so disterbing how it was so horror movie like. RIP Tim McLean

It's unforunate this happened, however, there have been many under reported incidents of people with mental health issues being put on "the bus" to go home or to another city for one reason or another.
In Ottawa several years back, a french (France) tourist was told that it was 2 hours to Vancouver, it takes atleast 2 days to get to Vancouver by bus. Not sure if telling this tourist 2hrs was an error and they meant 2 days, but it was lost in translation. Somewhere between Ottawa and Sudbury, the French tourist confronted the bus driver and somehow managed to open the door of the bus while in motion.... I think the rest can be filled in.
I personally was on the bus returning from Toronto on the red eye bus, and there was a woman who got on, who in the middle of the night was asking everyone if she could sit with them, the bus was totally empty, plenty of room for everyone to have their own seat. She then started b*tching out the bus driver, he warned her to sit down and keep quiet. She was quiet until we got into my city and she started again, the bus driver let her off before the bus terminal.
I personally think there are agencies out there that are "dumping" people off at the bus terminal with a ticket and washing their hands of them. Simillar to what was happening in Los Angeles with homeless patients. I hope Greyhound and here also Northland take a serious look at this matter and make changes. My uncle was a Greyhound bus driver since graduating from HS, he drove for over 30 years and he encountered many situations, but nothing like the mentioned killing.
The man of accussed of this crime was in the hospital prior to this for an evaluation: 96hrs, but apparently, he either left or they released him, either way, it was tradegic. Personally knowing individuals with mental health issues, I know that it takes more than 96hrs to evaluation a person, and sometimes, a patient's right override community safety. There is also the issue of space or funded beds. Which again puts communities at risk for incidents like this to occur.
I hope the victim's family are able to find peace and understanding during this tradegic time. Perhaps this will help shed some light on our underfunding/unaccountable mental health services.
I was wondering if there was mention of this on here. I was sooooooo frazzled by the news of that "group" picketing.....WTH is wrong with people!!!!! I mean really.

I believe PETA was going to try and equalite what happened on the bus with this young man dying, to the slaughter of animals. Typical of this organization, to try and make their cause the centre of attention during a tragedy.

I think thats just disgusting, they should really let the family grieve in peace! Screw all the other people who think they can benifit from this! They should leave it alone and go pickit the ass whos in jail.

Oh yikes, I didn't even know about PETA. I was talking about that Baptist congregation from Kansas - they were saying that the murder was God's way of warning Canada for its liberal policies. Good thing nothing happened.
