Cool Byetta Club

I started this thread to keep track of the effectiveness of Byetta as it pertains to being used off label to treat PCOS related hyperinsulinemia.

When did you start Byetta?

4/23/06

Are you also a type two diabetic?

No

Did you notice any side effects right away?

Yes! When I made lunch I took a much smaller piece of Italian bread and I was full after eating it to the point where I could not drink alot of diet soda. The full feeling lasted quiet a while.

Have you lost weight on Byetta?

Not yet...

What else do you take with the Byetta to treat your hyperinsulinemia?

Metformin 1000 mg twice a day.

Any advice for anyone else starting Byetta?

Watch out for that fullness! I wasn't expecting it and if I had done my usual shoveling in of food I might have gotten really sick. Drink water in between meals cause you might not be able to tolerate it after eating.

IMPORTANT Make sure that when you give yourself the Byetta using the pen that you press the button down all the way and hold it in place for five seconds so you get the full amount of medication. If you take it out of the skin too fast then you don't get the full impact of the medicine. My husband was giving himself Byetta and taking it back out of the skin right away like an insulin shot and that was incorrect.

Second full day of taking Byetta. I notice a great reduction in my appetite. I do notice that I don't have that physical urge of hunger today but I do still have the habit of course(especially when I see candy at work). I checked my blood sugar and it was 82 tonight which is pretty darn good for me. I have been running in the low 100's which is normal but not ideal for me. I had to remind myself to drink water. No nausea but had a feeling and a sense like if I ate more then I did I might get nauseous.

Kelly, what else are you taking for the Type two diabetes? Glucophage? Actos?

Default Byetta

Hi there!

I went to my endo today and she was literally giddy with excitement. I've been frustrated with my constant exercise, strict diet and lack of weight loss. In fact, at my appointment today I had actually gained weight. But she said that she had reviewed my labs and was very excited because she had an idea! She gave me a prescription for Byetta and explained everything to me. I am excited to try it but I am going to wait for the weekend (I have law school exams this week and don't want to be dealing with stomach issues when I should be dealing with the law against perpetuities :-)

I will keep checking in with this thread after I start taking it.

Good luck everybody!

Shannon

Hey Shirley! Welcome to the Byetta Users Club.

I have lost 2.5 pounds so far on the Byetta in about 9 days. I also notice that I have alot more control with my portion sizes.

OK, I broke down and filled the prescription today. Yes, I was procrastinating the studying - property law just stinks!!! I've taken the two doses today and absolutely notice a difference in my appetite. However, I did not run today, which always seems to make me ravenous. Tomorrow will be a test since I am going to run in the morning in order to clear my head before my exam tomorrow night. I guess we'll see. The self-injecting thing is a little weird to me, but I'll get over it. I am so frustrated that I am willing to try anything at this point.

OK, I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to on the Byetta Website. What happens if you take your dosage and you wait longer than an hour to eat? Anyone?

Hello I have been on Byetta for over 8 months now. I have only lost 20lbs but I am not doing any extra if that makes sense. I started walking and feel good about it but have not lost anymore weight. there are days like yesterday I couldn't eat my Torta sandwich I guess the Byetta was working overtime. But whet home and ate a small pork steak, green beans and a small portion of Mac-n-cheese. I have noticed that when I want to eat a slice of bread with my meal it's only one don't have the desire for bread as much as before. I really wish I cold lose more weight but I am maintaining it I guess. Also I am on the big brother (10mg) Thanks for reading!

Thank you! I ate at exactly one hour the other day and I didn't have problems. Then again, I am on Protonix for heartburn so it's likely I won't get it :-)

I am definitely feeling more full on this drug and eating less, too. I haven't been able to finish a meal yet. And while a yogurt wouldn't be enough for breakfast, now it's a perfect amount.

I find if i eat right after I take the shot it has no effect on my appetite but if I wait about 45-1 hour then it curbs my eating habit

Default Whoa!

Ladies! This Byetta shot is really working for me. I woke up this morning and I lost three pounds this past week! I cannot believe that I am finally shedding this stubborn weight. I am not even exercising yet! How is everyone else doing with the shot?

Call me spacey, I never noticed this thread! Silly me

I've been on Byetta since like.. December? 10mcg since January.

I hated the first month, I was utterly miserable. Constantly nauseous, only threw up once or twice, but I have a major aversion to that, so that ws more than bad enough for me!

going to 10mcg was really hard too, I had constant bad bad upset stomach and heartburn, but a couple months of various proton pump inhibitors (prilosec, protonix, aciphex) made that better. Doing okay now.

I do get some nasty nasty bruises though. I had one that lasted right at a month! It was so bad, towards the end, I even had dh take a couple pics so I can show my endo when I see her today! Do you guys get those? Horrible..

And, sometimes, the injection site is sore for a bit afterwards.

Anyway, Chula and I are old hands at this by now... so ask us those weird questions!

Back to work...
