Hi Alyssa, I find I get the sweet cravings if I go too long without eating. When I started byetta I could go all day and not be hungry. That is no longer the case. So eat regular meals, size them down if you need to. Another bit of advice is, work some decent foods that have a sweet taste into your meals. Fruit, graham crackers, are some examples. Of course, your doctor knows what/how you can eat, I'd ask at your next appointment.

Ohhh, that previous post (by LaBigGirl) scares me - I have been on Byetta for about a week and a half, and I have lost 7 lbs! I have maybe 10 left to lose to be REALLY thin (like I have gotten to before, but never maintained), so I am pretty excited by the Byetta right now. The BIGGEST deal for me, though, is that I have NO cravings, like at ALL! I was a food addict before, sugar addict, whatever - I would plan out when and how I was going to have sweets every day - hiding it at home since my husband would go crazy seeing that and knowing how hard I try to lose weight! Haven't eaten candy or sweets since the day after I started Byetta, and I don't even think about it any more. In fact, I have to think about eating consciously, as I am rarely hungry and even when I eat I get full really fast. I know I am not taking in enough calories right now, but I am going to work on increasing it a little.
Anyway, two weeks ago I was crying, nothing fit, I hated myself for being so weak to food and candy and sweets, and now I am feeling leaner and SO positive and hopeful! Maybe the rest of my life can be a little closer to what more normal eaters experience/feel! I pray pray PRAY that the Byetta doesn't lose it's effectiveness for me! I have to go back to the endo at the end of the 30 day trial and hopefully he'll prescribe the Byetta - I'd be happy sticking to 5mcg until that got less effective, then moving to 10...
If anyone is thinking about this and on the fence, I would say BEG your doctor to let you try it for a month - then see how it works for you! I've had slight nausea a few times, but nothing that makes a dent in how great I feel now that I am losing weight!!
I'm now on that spiro blah blah blah drug as well, so we'll see if the excess hair settles down over the next month, too...I'm so used to it - much as I hate it...But it would be icing on the cake to not have to worry about that anymore...sigh...
Also - WAY more energy (not like a thermogenic or caffeine - more just NOT exhausted by late afternoon/end of day), and my husband says "better mood"...More libido? Who knows...Maybe just a halo effect!
Had to share! My endo and Byetta are my new best friends!!!
Karla

Karla, don't let my post discourage you at all because we are all different. I do feel that the Byetta still is having a dampening effect on my appetite, it's simply not as dramatic as it was the first 2-3 months when I felt like a "food camel," able to go long periods without food. I am almost 6 months into Byetta and it is helping me in many ways according to my endo and labwork. That doesn't mean I don't get some sweet cravings from time to time, like anybody. Good luck with your continued success with Byetta!

Erp I just found this. I posted in the diabetes section. Sorry bout that. Anyway, so hi..I'm on Byetta and I'm sick. I just started to 10mg.
I'm afraid to eat because I don't want to get sick (because boy am I now..) but I need to so I am wondering what are some things to eat on this stuff. I tried eating my normal diet (bad) yesterday and I paid for it all night. What are some tips for eating and not being sick?

That is totally normal. I find that eating really small portions of light, bland food helps. For example most days I eat a 110 calorie cereal bar for breakfast. Lately I've been eating 1/2 a bagel which is a little over 200 calories, so a much bigger breakfast. If you take your Byetta before breakfast and dinner as I do, make lunch the main meal of the day where you get most of your nutrients, make sure you are eating a lot of protien and fiber at lunch. Since it is the furthest from taking the Byetta, it is less likely to make you sick. Also you really have to listen to your body and stop when you are full. When it comes to dinner, if we're going out I'll have a starter or a soup/salad. That's about all I can handle but I've noticed I get munchy for a snack before bed, usually around 9 or 10pm. I'll have a clementine, a small apple or some crackers with peanut butter just to settle my stomach.
I think the key is really listening to your body and giving it only what it wants. If I overeat in the slightest, I will get really sick and projectile vomit, sorry to share but true!
Hey quick question ladies, have you noticed your hair is shedding more? I think it is because of my metabolism kicking in but I have been shedding a ton (when I used to never shed) so it kind of startled me!!
I've been shedding hair more than normal for the last 4-6 months that I have noticed. I have been unable to connect my hair shedding to a particular cause, and I'm on an assortment of drugs. It is annoying to find hair everywhere in the bathroom like the sink, the floor, the shower drain. Luckily my hair is only chin length and the hairloss is from all over the scalp, not in spots like crop circles.

Hi LA! Okay good, that's what my experience is. My husband thinks, after growing up with sisters, that its the same level as their normal, healthy metabolism shedding... I've also heard that when women are pregnant they don't shed so once they have their child they shed a lot. I'm wondering if starting to treat PCOS is like that... you know, making up for lost time?
At any rate, I noticed it started happening after I started the Byetta. I am going to bring it up with my endo at the next appointment but if anyone is going to see theirs/has recently seen theirs and is having the same thing, please let us know what you've learned!
It's so nice to find other people going through this. Medical sites of what is "supposed" to happen doesn't help much. I'm into my third month of Byetta and the sickness after dinner is worse than ever. At least 4 nights a week I don't keep down my dinner. Doesn't matter what I eat or drink. My RE says that taking the byetta (10mg) with the metformin I'm on (2000mg) will help with the weight loss needed to help combat my PCOS. Down to about 185; lost about 20 pounds since October when I started the metformin. I sure hope this all helps. I just want to be a mom so bad and I'm driving my husband crazy.
First IVF cycle was last December. In the ultrasounds they saw so many follicles but during retrieval only got one egg. We named it "Nemo" since it was the lone survivor. They weren't sure we would even be able to transfer since it took so long to start splitting but we did get the call and went in for 5dt. I was devistated when it didn't work out. At that time we had 100% insurance coverage, now we have none so its been awhile to be able to try again.
IFV 1 : 12/08 lupron, follistem, ovidrel with 2000mg metmorfin BFN
IFV 2: 9/09 currently in bc stage with 2000mg metformin and 10 byetta x 2 - planned protocal beginning sept. 18 includes lupron, follistem, hcg, ovidrel

Hi, I'm new to this site and I think I have read every post from this one and the old one. I have PCOS and Diabetes II. I had been on metformin (2850mg a day) and my sugar would still sore to in the 300s. I had lost weight on Low Carb (255 down to 192) but the weight loss had stopped and it was a real struggle so my doc put me on Byetta (5mg twice a day) and so far I have lost 10lbs with out any sickness...UNTIL last night. Took my shot at 5pm, ate small chicken, 2 T corn/lima beans and 2T cottage cheese. At 8pm it all came up. Not sure what happened. Has this happened to anyone. I figured once the doc puts me on 10mg I might have problems at first but I was doing so well on the 5mg. So glad I found this site! Don't feel quite as alone in the fight if you know what I mean. (oops, forgot to say I take 500 mg metformin twice a day too)

How much liquid are you drinking with your meals? I recently met a woman at my gym who has gastric bypass and learning about her routine has made me very conscious of how much I drink and how often. If I drink a lot of water, all at once, it will make me just as nauseous as if I had eaten that volume in food. I recently bought this great camelbak water bottle (sig, nalgene etc same concept) and having it on me at all times makes me sip water continuously rather than down it all at once so I'm less likely to make myself sick!

As far as food coming back up, it's happened to me three times, far after mealtime. I always know when it's going to happen. I get weird-tasting burps for a few hours , then comes the nausea and it goes downhill from there. I believe that mine is from the food staying, longer than the usual Byetta delay, in the stomach and then fermenting. It feels like my stomach is a balloon filled with gas when it happens. I haven't had it in about 3 months and I'm grateful!

Thanks guys. I drink water as you do champagnecholly pretty much all the time. By the way, and I hate to bring it up, but anyone have problems with constipation and if so how are you handling it? Thanks again!
I have recently found that as soon as I feel the nasuea coming on...sometimes within minutes of eating other times hours later...as long as I eat a piece of white bread or eat a frozen popsicle, it seems to subside. May just be a fluke but as long as its working I'll use it. Counting down six days to go before starting the Lupron for round 2. I'm very hopeful this time things will work. Praying everyday.
