Mat, regarding constipation, I get it sometimes and it goes away after a few days for no reason. I think it's mainly water intake, with const. happening when I don't drink enough (but don't realize it). I do "go" everyday, that is not interrupted by the Byetta in my case, thank goodness.

H-E-L-P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been on 5mg of Byetta and 500mg of metformin for about 2 months. My doc upped my dosage to 10mg with no metformin and since I still have some 5mg left it was 4 shots a day. It just didn't seem to be working once I started the 4 shots a day so I thought maybe I hadn't kept the pen refrigerated enough so I went and got the 10mg pen filled. I took the first shot from it around 3pm yesterday and then had dinner (1 bowl of potato soup and 5 wholewheat ritz crackers) and checked my sugar at 5:30 pm and it had jumped from 188 (which was too high itself) to 253. I about freaked. I was hungry as well...I took 500mg of metformin since I didn't want to call the doc on Sunday and when I got up this morning and took my sugar (had eaten nothing) it was 188. I took my shot and another metormin and had scrambled eggs for breakfast. I just took it now and it was 155. I'm not starved like yesterday. I have a call into the Doc because she doesn't want me on metformin but wasn't sure what else to do, it looks like the Byetta isn't working like it was but the metformin is affecting my kidney function so she took me off of the metformin. Guess I will still need sugar meds in pill form and I was hoping I wouldn't...Has this happened to anyone else...it works for a couple of months and then just stops all of a sudden?? 8-(

That has definitely happened to me and I have been on Byetta for months. I dont have them everyday though but they have been consistent since I have been taking the Byetta. The best thing to do is take some Aleve and avoid really bright lights. I find that adds to the headaches. Good Luck!

As far as costs, my insurance does cover it. My endo did not give me a diabetic diagnosis but they still covered the cost. Because there's not a generic, my insurance charges $75 for 3 month supply.

I've recently run into a gallbladder problem and had severe pains one day. I attributed it to the very cheesy pizza i ate. After a few tests, my gallbladder seems to be functioning properly. I asked about Byetta contributing to it, but my family doctor did not seem concerned and did not advise me to stop the Byetta. I'm hoping it was just a freak incident... because the Byetta is the only thing that has helped with weight losss. Even walking and exercise wasn't doing anything.

I have noticed hair loss again though. I'm hoping that's just stress. Seems like once you get one symptom under control, something else goes wrong. Just the way it goes with PCOS.

I read somewhere that Pizza and Byetta dont mix well at all for some odd reason so I'm sure that's why you had the gallbladder problem. And I definitely agree about the symptoms. I get so frustrated when I go to the doctor and I have overcome one obstacle just to get thrown another. I lost 60 lbs in 4 1/2 mos using Glumetza, just for my body to go in shock per my doc and my thyroid started having problems and is super low. So now I have to take two different thyroid meds on top of the glumetza and byetta. It's truly exhausting. I get nervous everytime I go to the doctor that they will find something else wrong.

Hey ladies. I haven't been on in a few days but wanted to give you the update. My check on Thursday was great with E2 of 1158 and about 20 follicles between 8 - 15. Went back on Saturday and they were all a bit bigger. Never heard what E2 was but doctor didn't seem worried. Going in for my retrieval today. I am SO worried, nervous, scared....we did this last December but only got one egg and it didn't take. Now this round my levels have all been better and I've felt more going through it so we're keeping fingers crossed.

Well...we got 9 eggs out during retrieval yesterday. Doctor called today, however, to state that none fertilized. They were going to do 'rescue icsi' today so who knows. Right now I'm just so upset and disappointed and don't really know what to think. We'll hear something tomorrow to see if any fertilize this way. Has anyone else ever had to do this?

Ok. I've now been on Byetta for 11 days. I've lost 7 lbs, which is great but now my skin is breaking out pretty badly. I don't know whether Byetta could cause this, but it seems like an awful coincidence. Has anyone else had this experience?

My insurance will not cover byetta because I am not a Type 2 diabetic. Are you Type 2?

How many of you are Type 2 with pcos. My insurance will not cover Byetta unless I am Type 2. I would like to appeal their decision of the denial and would like to have some proof that I don't have to be a Type 2 diabetic.

Afern, I'd discuss that with your dr. If something is medically-necessary (and your dr. can provide the proof) some insurances will cover it, usually with you contributing a high-tier copayment. But it's still less than the retail cost would be. Have you had any evidence of impaired glucose tolerance or insulin resistance on blood tests? The insurance plan's decision may also hinge on whether or not you've already tried other (read: less costly) medications to manage your condition. There's no harm in trying all your possibilities, if your dr. says you are a good byetta candidate.

Hi Ladies,

I'm currently on 1500 mg of metformin per day. I recently met a girl in my church that has PCOS and she said she's had success with Byetta. I'm thinking about talking to my doctor about me going on it-- but I'm wondering if it's even worth me going on it if we are currently TTC. I've just finished my 2nd of 6 rounds of clomid-- my doc will let me go 6 rounds before discontinuing clomid. Should I even ask to start Byetta if I'd have to stop if we get preg.?

TIA!

I had never heard of the byetta, until reading here. My dr's haven't mentioned it in the least and I recently went to and endocrinologist... I take metforming 750 2x day, lebetalol, spironolactone, claritin, and zoloft.. Can you guys definitely tell a difference with the byetta?

Hi there!
Okay well if you are TTC this is what my Endo told me: Once we decide to TTC I should stop the byetta. I should not take it during the pregnancy. Now we haven't even thought about TTC yet so when it comes time I def need multiple Dr's opinions. Let me know what your doc says!

But for future ref, post-preg and those thinking of byetta, I would strongly suggest it. I was on 1500 mg of Metformin for six months and while I stopped gaining weight and swelling went down within a week, I still had a hard time losing weight, keeping my cycle regular and controlling my blood sugar/A1c levels. Now that I'm on 10mcg of Byetta 2x a day I can really tell my body is processing the food I eat, my blood sugar is normal and I have more energy. The only down side is that I am very nauseaus. I will go through good periods for a month or so and then for a few weeks (like the present) I'm just so ill I can't stand it. But I have also lost 25-30lbs in 5 mos on Byetta. Mind you I've been working out 3x a week pretty hard all along. Hopefully I can keep it up and keep it off! I would definately suggest talking to an Endo though, my Endo was the one who suggested it for me.

Thanks champagnecholly. I'll let you know once I go in to see my doc. It sounds like a lot of people have had success with it!

Default Going off Byetta

I reached my max for my insurance this year. I'm going to take this time to stop the Byetta until 2010 to see how I do without it. I'm may start a Byetta Break thread to chronicle my experience coming off the Byetta. I'm just gonna chuck my pen since it only has two doses left. I am 202.5 pounds as of this morning up from a low of 177. I'm going to stop my glucophage too. I will continue with the Chromium and inositol. I plan to be more aggressive with exercise and have more dietary control of my simple carbs. I'll report back with any symptoms such as increased facial hair growth or hair loss on my head.
