I've been off the Byetta for about a week now after about 3 years of use. I am having trouble with huge increase in my appetite. I'm going to strongly avoid eating any simple carbs as I think that is setting me off. I am working out three times a week with weights to help balance my insulin levels. I am presently doing 45 minutes of cardio 3 days a week but I think I need to increase it to 4-5 days a week. I'm a little shocked at how fast my appetite kicked in. I'm not going to give in and buy the Byetta because frankly I can't afford it right now. The more muscle I build the better off I will be right now. I also need to increase my protein ratio in my diet.

Nick, have you taken your plight to your doctor? Sometimes they have samples they can dispense for a few months until you can buy it from the pharmacy again. Assuming your bloodwork was improved on Byetta, it would be a shame to backslide into severe insulin resistance. It takes time to turn that ship around. I've "been there" with the massive hunger and wanting to have a normal eating pattern like most people I know. It sounds like you're on the right track with the extra workouts and eating plan, but you should pay your dr. a visit (or phone call) IMO. Take care

Labiggirl, I hate to ask for samples. There are people who are worse off then me that need them for severe diabetes. I would feel guilty as heck about it. Thanks for the suggestion though but I'm gonna fight it myself till January and next year I am gonna be smarter about how I do things. I'd really like to make it without the Byetta if I can.

Hi! I posted on here several months ago. Anyway, I think my endo will give me Byetta, but insurance won't pay since I am not diabetic. Is anyone taking this with insulin resistance only?

Have any of you taken metformin before with "bathroom issues" and then go to Byetta with no issues? Just wondering.

TIA!

I am not diabetic, and my insurance has covered my Byetta. Lots of people who are only insulin resistant w/o Diabetes take Byetta.

Beachlover, what you described sums up my experiences.
1) I take Byetta shots for insulin resistance, though not officially diabetic (had a glucose tolerance test for that). My insurance is covering it, I pay a copayment on the drug and on the needles. I don't know how dr. designates it on forms, but I've never seen her write "diabetes" on any of my records, just PCOS diagnosis.
2) For years, my dr. tried me on Metformin and I had to give it up because I couldn't tolerate a dose high enough for it to help...severe and unpredictable digestive trouble from it.
3) I have minimal digestive trouble on the Byetta-only plan. Now and then, constipation. Now and then, diarrhea. But it's rare either way.

I've been on Byetta since Feb. 2009. Lost around 20 lbs first few months, presently holding steady but still overweight. Need to exercise more than I have been. Good luck with your quest!

Default Dr.'s in Phoenix AZ Area (ENDO)

I have been taking metformin for a few months now, I HATE it! It has made me gain weight, haven't started AF. I really want to try Beyetta but my endo said it is not approved for use with PCOS (I thought technically Met wasn't either) Anyway, does anyone know of a good Endo/OBGYN/or RE that would prescribe it to me in the Metro Phoenix Area??

TIA!

Just an update from me regarding my Byetta vacation. I'm really struggling without the byetta. My appetite is really bad especially if I eat any non complex carbs. I am hovering above 200 pounds right now. If I am going to be able to maintain my overall weight loss without Byetta then I will have to work twice as hard. In other news, I have some kind of a mass on my left lower side. I'm going for a pelvic sonogram tomorrow. I wonder if stopping the Byetta could have stimulated the growth of a new ovarian cyst.

I just happened to Google ovarian cyst and hyperinsulinemia and wouldn't you know it...they are associated!

Hi Nick, sorry to hear about your new problem. I hope the dr. can figure out what's going on soon and help you. Have you talked to dr. or amylin/byetta co. about obtaining free byetta samples til you can buy again? Yes it would be humbling, but it would only be for a few months. It seems like you've suffered being off byetta and it doesn't hurt to ask.

I am glad to have found this thread!!

I've recently been prescribed Byetta by my Endo and wanted to do some checking around. I remembered about SoulCysters (haven't been out here in about a year) and came in to read up.

How many of you are taking Byetta AND Met? I did a weightloss study last year through my endo's office and lost officially about 30-35 lbs, but I've put 20 back on since stopping the study meds -- did not change anything about my eating habits since the study, and I am still outputting at least 200 kCal a day more than I intake according to my GoWear Fit (should be more, I know). The Ph.Asst suggested this week (probably reinforcing a sugggestion my Endo made a few months back) that I ty Byetta but I am worried that using it is just another "quick" fix that will stop working once I stop taking it.

I decided to go back on the Byetta. It's going to cost me 203 dollars for this month. I will try to get a sample from the doctor for December. I'm struggling way too much with my appetite. Not to mention that I just happened to develop an ovarian cyst within the last month. It just seems too coincidental that I stopped the Byetta and I got a cyst. I ended up in the emergency room last night after nearly fainting from the rupture of the cyst. I'm just not ready to be off the Byetta at this time.

Oh Nick,
I'm so sorry to hear the news. Hopefully being back on byetta will help. I talked to my doctor, at my last visit, regarding byetta for life. It seems some people just require it to function because they were made that way. He said we could try to ease off slowly and then stop at some future date but it may just be something that we have to endure for life...

All the best,

Oh and Cynlu, I'm on both byetta and met. It seems a lot of people here are because they tried met first and it just wasn't enough. Keep us updated on your progress!!
