Mine is about $200/month through my insurance mail in program - where you have to get 3 months. I found a local pharm. that sells it for $189 - so check around. I know people who get it with their insurance for $40-$50/mo - there is no generic so its a 'brand name' co pay.

About the needles and leaving it in for a second round of 5 mcg - never had any blood in my pen after doing this. I rarely bleed after an injection, but have a few times, but never noticed any blood getting in my pen. I would be so dissapointed if it did ... esp with one of my 10 mcg pens that I paid $200 for!!!

I have a question...if anyone can help...
I just started my injections today, and I was wondering..when I get up I know I should do the first injection, but I get up at different times in the morning right now (out of work) so lets say I take my first injection @ 12pm noon....when should I take the next injection? I know in the phamphlets it says 6hrs in between injections...so does that mean I cannot eat for 6hours? Need some clarification please....Thanks Cysters!

Not at all It just means you can't take another injection for 6 hours. You can eat anytime you'd like after taking your first injection, up until (I think, an hour before you're going to take your next shot). So, if you take your first shot at 12pm, you can eat anytime (more than once if you like) up until around 5pm (if you're taking the next shot at 6pm.

I take mine at different intervals as well. I never wake up at the same time, and honestly, sometimes I'm just not hungry and don't feel like eating, so there are times it's WAY past 6 hours after I've taken my first shot before taking my second, and everything works fine.

Thank you so much for the input and info beautiful_disaster (which I LOVE that song by the way LOL) I have another quick question...as for side effects, which I am experiencing now...does anyone know when those taper off? How long they last? What helps? I am having the following: Nausea, light headedness/dizziness, indigestion, acid reflux, stiffness/pain in neck, insomnia, headaches....

You are most welcome! As for the side effects, I know how long they last vary from person to person. I had horrible nausea for about a month or so, until I got used to eating a certain amount of food, and learning what foods to avoid that would irritate my stomach.

The light-headness and dizziness may be from your blood sugar getting too low? Are you taking the injection, then eating immediately, or taking the injection and waiting a period of time before eating? 3 years ago when Byetta was first introduced, they recommended waiting 1 hour after taking your injection to eat, and I would nearly pass out by the time it was time for me to eat. A few months after, the usage was changed to eating anytime within an hour of taking your injection (so it could be taken and then eat immediately) which helped me immensely with the light-headness.

As far as reflux goes, I had HORRIBLE reflux from the Metformin alone, so I was on 40mgs of Nexium, before beginning Byetta, and it has continued to help. You could start out trying Tums or something, if that doesn't work, maybe give Prilosec OTC a try. If those aren't successful, talk to your doctor about Nexium, Prevacid or something like that, they work wonders!

I will be picking up my Byetta for the first time on Friday. Figured I would start it over the weekend to get accustomed to it. Has anyone been told by their doctors if they would have to use it for the rest of their lives?

Hi all, I am new to this cite and also to Byetta. I have completed my first week of Byetta 5mcg. I have had the loss of appettite and the nausea, but I have also had some acid reflux. Bearable. I have not weighed to see if I have lost any since my first shot 1 week ago.

I am also taking, 50 mg of Spiro and 1000x2 Met. I had my first appointment with my endo last friday who presribed all of this. I was already on met and a low dose of Spiro. He was very informative and I go back to him in December.

Any suggestions on teh IR diet. I have not changed my diet yet and my endo did not suggest it yet, so those who have done it and been on Byetta, is it hard to stick to?

Hey Ladies...I was on byetta, but my new endo took me off of it. I was on it for a year and it didn't help me with weight loss, but it did help me maintain the weight I had already lost. Since I've been off it I've gained 15 lbs back...I could cry. I'm trying to get him to put me back on it, but not sure if he will or not. I am also on insulin and metformin and it hasn't been tested with using it with insulin, so I doubt he will...I could just cry....I hope you ladies have success with it, but be careful there is a study out that says it causes pancreatic attacks...

Hey Ladies -- my endo suggested that I go on Byetta. I have lost 26 lbs through diet/exercise since first going on meds almost 2 years ago. It's so hard to take weight off and I figured I have nothing to lose by trying this med - I'm doing the work anyway.

I was curious about diet though. What have you all done to reduce the possible side effects? If you eat right and exercise, does it help? How long do the side effects usually last for? Do you have any other tips for making sure this drug works for you?

Also, does anybody else have any Byetta success stories? How long do you usually have to stay on this drug in order to see results?

Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

do any of you ladies on byetta have skin reactions at the injection site?

i didn't during my first trial with the byetta, but as soon as a thyroid medication was added, i get redness and swelling at the injection site.

I would suggest seeing an allergy doctor or go back to the doctor(s) that prescribed the medications (Byetta and thyroid meds) and tell them of the reaction. Are you on Synthroid or Armour Thyroid? Good Luck!

for ladies that take Metformin AND Byetta - when do you take each? if we inject with byetta before the meal - how long to wait to take metformin, since they are taken at the same meals...

or should i move metformin to lunch??
