Hey ladies! I've noticed people mentioning that Byetta helped regulate their cycles/ ovulation. Is this a common side effect of the drug or weight loos, or both? Just curious, I'm almost done w/ my 2nd Byetta 5 pen & have lost over 15lbs. (I also excercise like a freak) Anyway, my first cycle while on Byetta was 41 days & I think I O'd but I;m not certain, but my current cycle is a Clomid cycle & if I'm not preggers- fingers crossed!!- then I should start this weekend, making it a 31 day cycle which is normal for me on Clomid. Have y'all experienced more regular cycles/ ovulation on Byetta?

Default Check w/your insurance company

Hey Missy,

Check with your insurance company to see if Byetta is on their formulary list. I have Aetna and I can get Byetta and I am not diabetic either, just PCOS. I have discovered that "some" endo doctors do not have the knowledge and understanding about PCOS. While others do! It might be time to find a new endo doc and if you want, I can do some research for you on-line about doctors in your area. I think you can send me messages through this system, but if not, do a reply and I will send you my e-mail address.

Take care,
crayons42

He said that weight loss can be a side effect, but that he's had people lose from 0-50 pounds on it. He was making a deal about putting in my chart that I was diabetic when I am not-I guess maybe insurance wise it's not a good thing? Anyway, I am bummed because I was really hopeful that I could at least try it. I guess I can if I am ready to fork over the bucks for it. He said he wouldn't mind giving it to me with the Actos, and that it could help with my IR, but I think the deal is my not being diabetic and the insurance not paying for it. I guess it's a deal w/ insurance and being diabetic since Byetta is an injectable?
Oh, well.
I do appreciate you answering my questions and giving me support.
If any of you went through something similar and you have any ideas that might help, please let me know!!

Thanks!
Missy

My endo put me on Byetta after trying me on/off Metformin for a very long time. Ultimately, the Met was not successful because I could not work up to the correct dose for me, and my bloodwork was slowly tipping more towards diabetic. I'm still not officially db, but rather pre-diabetic based upon a glucose tolerance test and bloodwork showing abnormal fasting glucose/insulin. I'm also hypothyroid and have that tested alongside the other PCOS tests every 3-4 months. My insurance (an HMO) hasn't bothered me about any of it, and they send me all the diabetes brochures, etc. But I know my endo checks off PCOS on my bloodwork orders.

UGH! I got ready for work as usual today--including breakfast--and started feeling queasy on the drive. Passed it off as the bumpy road effect, and got there ok. Within 15 min of arriving, went to the bathroom and puked my guts out. I'm pretty sure a few unfortunate passers-by got an earful. Had to have someone page the janitor to disinfect the toilet (yes, I ruined the teacher bathroom for everyone), and then I had to go home before my day even started. Everyone is so worried about swineflu...I had to explain to my boss that I was pretty sure it was a reaction to medication and nothing contagious. How do you talk about these things without going into detail, anyway? To top it off, I got sick again at home and spent the day feeling like crud, dehydrated and tired. Curse you, Byetta!

My Dr. prescribed Byetta for me, and I'm supposed to start it today. I'm looking forward to all the benefits, but I'm still so scared about putting a needle into my skin. Does it hurt much? Are their any tricks to it? I'm pretty sure I want to inject into my thigh, the stomach seems too scary.

LaBig- That's horrible! I'm so sorry you are feeling bad & have to discuss it w/ your boss. Lol, Swine Flu...

Alexandria- the needle is tiny & really doesn't hurt at all. In fact, when I use it perfectly (which isn't too often, lol) I can't even feel it go in. Just make sure to pinch your skin & let go as soon as the needle goes in & you'll be fine. Also, try to mkae sure there's none of the liquid on the needle b/c that's what stings when it touches your skin.

Alexandria, injecting Byetta is a snap. It rarely hurts, and I can't feel it going in most of the time. I usually stretch the belly up with one hand while I send in the needle (which is teeny). The first couple times it helps to be wearing loose clothing for maneuverability, and before you know it you'll be able to inject in your sleep. Not that I'd recommend doing that, just an expression!

Hey girls!! I just realized that I didn't refridgerate my Byetta when I picked it up at the pharmacy 10 days ago. I haven't used it yet, do y'all think that's a problem? UGH! I think it'll be ok b/c when my doc gave me the 1st 2 pens they weren't refridgerated. Hmmm...opinions?

Well, I know they say "refrigerate prior to first use." But IMO they put that on there so that it arrives/stays fresh for the consumer. Then you, the consumer, can let it get too hot and ruined before you've used it up! It says keep below 76 degrees I think, after you open it (but not below 36). I imagine if you had it in a place that fit the temperature requirement you'd be all set.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in awhile. My weight is up about 12 pounds or so but that's is because I've been overeating. The Byetta seems to have lost some effectiveness and I am going to try to get them to increase me to the 10 mcg. I am on a Byetta and glucophage, chromium holiday until at least tuesday. I am starting a 3 day atkins diet on tuesday to reset my insulin levels. I may hold off on taking byetta and glucophage until the end of the 3 days so that I dont make myself too weak. I will let everyone know if this helps to get me back on track.

Nickof Time- GL

LaBig- ITA about not refridgerating it, I think it'll be fine. I had it in a cool, dark cabinet- it def didn't get hot. Thanks for your opinion.

Hey ladies... I decided to start my Atkins plan on friday and restart byetta next monday. I am actually feeling ok off the byetta. I thought my appetite was gonna go through the roof but it isn't. My weight is lingering at 189-190. This is with a regaining of 12-13 pounds I put on since November of 2008. My lowest was 177 last November so that isn't too horrid of a weight gain for someone with PCOS. My highest weight was 253 in 2003. It's a constant battle to keep the weight off!

Constant battle...you said it, Nick! There are worse things than PCOS, but it's hard to live with every day. I haven't charted a semi-normal weight for my height since I was a teen. Right now my mini goal is to get under 200, and I'm 217 right now. I plan to get there by the end of summer. Teacher out of school = lots of gym time!

My cycle was regular after the metformin. I know that's not a direct answer, but hopefully helpful.

Question for you ladies - I've been on the 10mcg for 2 mos now and I've lost 10 lbs. I have not been able to exercise. Every time I try to go for a run, I get so nauseous that I have to throw up in the bushes and walk home... have any of you experienced this? I'm trying to experiment with running at different times, like so many hours after taking my injection. So far, nothing seems to be helping.

By the way, I have been sick from byetta. I have been getting sporadic morning sickness and motion sickness. I had to start carrying a doggy bag dispenser in my handbag!
