Default byetta VS met

have you found byetta to be any more effective than met in lowering insulin levels or suppressing appetite?

Hi. I started Metformin about 6 months ago. Initially for the first month or so I did have some appetite suppresion. That went away. I didn't experience the weight loss that alot of people do with Metformin.

I still take Met, and last Friday started Byetta. I can say that my appetite went down to zero immediately. I'm eating a 1/4 of what I did before and I feel full most of the time.

As someone who has lost 46 lbs to date with a WHOLE LOT more too go, these are welcome side effects.

I hope this information helps!

thank you so much, that was exactly the reply i've been hoping for!

i've been on met for about 4 months and i'm now at 1500mg. i have an appointment next week and i think the doctor will be starting me on byetta (if i don't have insurance issues). so i really appreciate any advice. while on met, i lost about 5 pounds in the first month and then, just like you - my appetite fully came back.

got a few questions for you:
over what period of time did you lose the 46 lbs?
what dosage of met are you currently on, was is changed when you started byetta?
what dosage of byetta are you on?

rebecca

Just wanted to tell you...Byetta was horrible for me. I couldn't eat at all ...I did lose some weight but my sugars were crazy. Very low. Make sure you monitor yourself well.

Rebecca,

I lost the weight over about a three month period before it suddenly stopped. I cut out all white food and started walking 20 minutes a day. That was all it took for me at the time.

I currently take 2000 mg daily of Metformin. 1000 mg after breakfast and 1000 after dinner. I started out on 500 mg once a day 6 months ago. My Endo has not lessened my dose as of yet. I'll find out when I go for my 6 week follow up in a couple of weeks. I told him when he started me on Byetta that my OB wants me on the Met for the PCOS.

Currently I am on the .5 mcg injection, twice daily. Since my blood sugar is doing so well (was only 86 this morning ) I'm going to see if he will keep me at the .5 rather than jump me up to the .10. It seems from alot of what I've read some people are VERY nauseaous when switching up to the .10 mcg.

Can anyone tell me how much Byetta costs? I have type 2 diabetes and take 2000mg of metformin a day. 1000mg in the morning and 1000mg in the evening. It's not controlling my blood sugars at all. They have been running 250 to 320. I don't drink sugar stuff, I don't eat sugar stuff. I watch what I eat, I walk an hour a day. I do have diabetic nerve disease too. I go back to the dr. on thursday and she may put me on byetta too. Just want to know how much it costs. Thanks.

Tera

Tera-I have insurance so I pay a $35.00 co-pay. The company that makes Byetta has a program out at the moment that allows your first pen to be filled at your pharmacy for free. Ask your doctor for the coupon.

In general without insurance, the pen in my area is about $220.00 according to my insurance company.

Tera: 250/300 is very high, my mother was getting readings around there and now takes insulin at bedtime, along with met. and it's made a huge difference.

My dr was telling me about a drug insulin shots that also help with wieght loss. I can't remmeber the name. I started met a year ago and stuck after losing 35 to 40 pounds it varies each month. I still have the sugary craving and such. I haven't been exercising because of back pain. I just found out that I have scolosis and arthitis in my back.

Thanks for the information about this new medication for type 2 diabetes. I am currently on 2000mg/ daily of metformin and seems to have stopped doing anything for me. I was planning on revisiting my doctor in November and discussing alternative options.
While I have PCOS, since my hysterectomy, fertility is not issue, but my weight is really causing me serious frustration and stress.

i'll be starting byetta soon and my endo told me that it's taken in conjunction with metformin...it's not an either/or situation.

i'm at 2000mg metformin and as soon as my class is scheduled, i'll be taking both

Unfortunately Byetta did not work as well as it did for others. I was on it for a month, taking the 5mcg. Byetta did not lower my blood sugars as I expected it to. My fasting blood sugars were still way too high.Another thing that kept me from continuing the Byetta was that my insurance did not cover it so I would have had to pay for it out of pocket(Which I cant afford.)So my doctor put me back on Amaryl. Since being back on Amaryl my blood sugars are getting back to normal. So I guess it depends on the person on how the Byetta will affect you. BTW, I am taking metformin with the Amaryl.
