I just got back from the nail salon, and a lady who is a nurse was talking about Byetta being used for weight loss. From what she said, it gets blood sugar under control, and causes the appetite to be low.
I do not have diabetes, but I do have insulin resistance. Currently I am on Fortamet.
What I am wondering is-do you only take Byetta if you have diabetes, or are doctors using this as a weight loss medication.
Are any of you using this medication-have you had any weight loss?
I haven't experience much weight loss with Fortamet- I have maybe lost about 10 pounds in the last year that I have been on it.
I would love to hear about your experiences with Byetta.
i am diabetic, and currently on met. but my doctor was saying at my last visit that he wants to get me on byetta for that reason. so that it will supress my appetite and help me get the weight off. i would prefer to take met than have to inject myself though. but i'd also be interested in hearing from people who are or have been on it.
byetta is used both for diabetes and in conditions like pcos where insulin resistance is making weight loss quite difficult. the weight loss is somewhat an "off-label" use but i have seen it a couple of times in my patients for weight-loss purposes and my endocrinologist routinely puts all of his pcos patients on it because he has had promising results in the clinical trial that he is involved in.
