Post c'mon cysters help me out! hair loss/growth

I have been reading replies about hair growth and I have some unanswered questions myself. So if the hair has already grown it will never go away EVEN with meds? I have to shave my arm hair and I was hopeing that when my treatment was in full force that the hair would not come back say if I wax it all off. I am very depressed and confused with all of this pcos stuff. I did a posting about hair loss also that I got a few replies (and thanx for those few who replied) but my question still stands. What and how do you prevent your hair on your head from falling out? I want to get another perm but I am afraid that MORE of my hair will fall out. Does anyone have any suggestions about hair processing with this problem ? I have so many questions and I am so glad to have joined this site.

Well, I'm not sure as to what you know, what you don't know.. and how much money you have to spend, lol. There's nothing that can guarantee your head hair will stop falling out.. or that your body hair will go away. Because of the PCOS..testosterone goes up....so taking things that directly lower androgens may first help ... yasmin, ortho-cyclen, diane-35..... Spironolactone/aldactone is a water pill made for blood pressure but it lowers your androgens... the more you lower them the less hair growth you'll get and the less your hair will shed. Getting the underlying PCOS treated with glucophage/avandia/or actos and losing weight should help ... Also,..don't perm or relax it.. don't use heat.. use warm water not hot.. use a blow drier only on cool.. use steam rollers instead of a curling iron.. use good salon shampoo and conditioners with plenty of PROTEIN .. take biotin (a b-vitamin) and a good multivitamin... Mens extra strength rogaine/minoxidil 5% applied 2 x a day will stop you from losing more hair and directly stimulate your hair and tell it to start growing.. it works somewhat but its not perfect..just dont get it on your face and wash your hands because its not a DHT lower-er..it actuallys stimulates growth..so it can give you face hair if you get it on your face everyday. Revivogen is a product that lowers the DHT (a form of testosterone) applied to your scalp, its really expensive, you can get it online, its the best herbal DHT lowerer there is... (www.revivogen.com I think..or you can search yahoo..I got mine cheaper on ebay) Oh and don't buy the shampoos/conditioners from them..just the scalp therapy.. shampoos can't really affect the roots of the hair and growing cycles, just the outside of the hairs....it has to stay on your scalp. Also folligen, a copper spray, decreases inflammation and lowers dht as well (www.skinbio.com). Don't pay attention to emu oil or various shampoos and potions.. KMS, Redken, Joico, L'anza, Biolage, Matrix, etc are good salon brands.... be careful with your hair.. and if you get it colored get it done at a salon, preferabbly elumen hair color which does no damage at all (www.elumen-haircolor.com). All other hair color takes the color out by ammonia or hydrogen peroxide which is very bad for it...also perming and relaxing is even much worse, it totally breaks down the hairs cuticle to reposition in a different way.. it won't affect at all your scalp hormones, like the above treatments and real hereditary hair loss..but it will make your hair weak and 'break off' not fall out. I hope this helps!

Hi,
Ya, I've posted recently and haven't gotten many responses--make sure you read through old posts with tons of good info--a little at a time or you'll get overwhelmed.

the previous poster gave you tons of good info. I agree that an anti androgen is the way to go. am trying that myself (diane and saw p). I'm also 6 weeks into taking metformin.

I've seen varying responses, but my hairdresser has been with me during the 4 years of hairloss, and she doesn't recommend perming. She said that she just doesn't know what might happen....she's afraid to do it (but would if I insisted) One time I went in before my sis's wedding, desperate cause I looked so bad, but she talked me out of it.

getting weight down (don't know if that's an issue?) has helped some people that I've read on this board.

I haven't had any luck with any of the very expensive external treatments I've tried. I've spent a small fortune with no results on those. I really hated rogaine--in some it can cause further hairloss. In best cases it will give you like 30% small regrowth, but the hair can be a different texture in some. You also have to use it forever or the hair you grew with it will fall out. And women aren't supposed to use the strongest one because it will get into your system and could cause problems (even the smallest dose concerned me) I think it's not even close to the answer the old ads used to sell.

Good luck.
ama

I do color religiously (highlight) because when it's lighter, the loss is WAY less noticeable. I also like the thickening effect I get because color plumps up your cuticle and can make your hair look thicker. It actually damages the cuticle but gives your hair a fuller look.
