While Im really not a coffee/pop drinker, I do enjoy one, once a week ...
Im just wondering if I should just not bother at all and cut it out all together ...
thoughts?

It's one of those things that really varies from mom to mom as far as who is ok with it (along the same lines things like soft cheeses, lunch meats, etc.). You will have to decide for yourself what is your level of acceptable risk.

My Mood: Points: 14,902.29 Bank: 142,969.84 Total Points: 157,872.13 | My RE told me that one cup of tea or coffee/day would be fine, but it was up to me. I never drank that much caffeine anyway, but usually would have one cup of tea with lunch. Since finding out I was pg, I've had one cup of tea---that was yesterday and shortly thereafter I got m/s. Now, Im sure it had nothing to do with the tea, unless the acidity bothered my empty stomach, but if I have more tea it will on a full stomach.
Anyway, there have been conflicting reports about caffeine and m/c. But, in most of the studies, the women in question had a lot more caffeine than one cup/beverage/day. Like, a million cups of expresso or something. Anyway, Ive decided that the occasional cup of caffeinated tea won't hurt and certainly by the 2nd tri, I'll feel a lot more comfortable with that.
As far as I know, (and I could be wrong) there's no developmental defects associated with caffeine, at least not with moderate amounts.

When I was so nauseated (until 20 wks) a coke settled my stomach better then anything else though!

My Mood: Points: 8,488.08 Bank: 245,446.89 Total Points: 253,934.97 | I was sick with a very bad cold at about 19 weeks and went to my Dr and she told me that I should eat chocolate (dark perferably) to sooth my throat and not to worry about the caffeine in it because it was well below the 300mg that would be potentionally harmful to baby. So I would say if you want to have a soda or coffee or whatnot once a week or even once a day then you would be ok. But ultimately it is a personal decision that only you can make.

My Mood: Points: 6,506.82 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,506.82 | I drink one or two caffeine drinks a day, but for me it is better I do than don't. My mom drank caffeine pregnant with me, and I am severely addicted to caffeine because my dad let me have it even in my bottle. I have had at least one drink a day since I was very young. Due to that, if I give it up entirely, I get such bad migraines that I begin vomiting uncontrollably. Obviously, that would be more dangerous to my baby than me having the low amount that comes in the sodas I don't even finish (they taste nasty to me now...)
I would say that one drink a week certainly isn't going to hurt you, but take it easy and decide if you feel like you need to cut it out or not.

My Mood: Points: 20,387.26 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 20,387.26 | I cut it mostly out when I was pregnant, but it helped me to have a cup when I had a headache and wasn't allowed ibuprofen (I am allergic to Tylenol). I figured they strictly forbade me from having ibuprofen, but only recommended that I minimize caffeine so I went with half of what's in most migraine medicines. Half a cup of coffee, and my headache went away. These weren't withdrawal headaches, as I had been off caffeine for months. Everyone has to make their own decisions, but I wouldn't sweat it if you want the occasional beverage.

I've been told that one or two cups of coffee/cans of soda a day is not harmful. So, I just try to balance that with drinking my water.
