teapot -

I've been on flutamide for close to a year now. (i gave more of my current history on it further up on this thread)

I've also just found out that I may have thyroid issues. I went on 15 mcg (or is it mg?) of Armour for about a week. I've been having anxiety issues lately towards the end of my cycle and I don't know if that had anything to do with it but whoa man did I react bad! My heart was racing and my anxiety went through the roof! I couldn't even run on a treadmill for a few weeks because I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest! I have an apt with a new endo next Wed. Praying, praying, praying that he'll have some answers.

I did run into some interesting info concerning thyroid issues and androgens. This book - Preview this book
It's My Ovaries, Stupid! By Elizabeth Lee Vliet talks a lot about pcos and hypo/hyper thyroid and the hormone connections. I haven't bought it yet but might. You can read an expert here. http://books.google.com/books?id=xl9...esult#PPA32,M1

I can't tell if my hairline is growing back or receding more. I have a bunch of short hairs there and in the temple, but it goes back so far I don't know what to think.

I'm set to start Fortamet next week (was encouraged by the studies I've read) as I want to get my Testosterone down and my shbg up. I know bcps can do this, but I've had bad experiences in the past, so they're kind of my last stop.

Also, I've always had a regular cycle but now I'm only getting a period every other month! I thought Flutamide helped regulate cycles.

Deb34 - I've been wondering about my Flutamide dose too. First I thought that maybe it was making my hair loss worse (couldn't understand why though), now I"m wondering if I need more? I was taking 375 every other day this last week because it's supposed to be the week before my period and my hairloss and facial hair get worse at this time (got the pms and those symptoms but no period) Don't know if it was a dumb idea or not.

I'm going to talk to this new doc about possibly upping the script. Don't want to do it too much myself because if I start going through my scripts too quick without doc approval, then I may find myself with no med at all!

I wonder if these fluctuations in sheds are part of the deal with Flutamide? Could our bodies maybe be upregulating our androgen production in some cases? Seems like bcps would keep that from happening. I wonder if metformin would too?

Sorry for the novel. Been a rough week here.

Kimm: collect your studies and work with your doctor. Don't up your dose on your own. That is never recommended, especially with high powered drugs like flutamide.

My own doctor is keeping me off Flutamide until she can research it more herself. I respect that.

I cited that study merely to insert the idea that possibly expected results were not happening for people because for their body the dose may not be effective. I was not advocating high dose medication, merely proposing a thought...

Hi Deb-

I understood what you were saying.

Only every other day for this week, in the off chance it might help. I'm going back to my normal dose now, until I have more info from a doc. I don't feel too comfortable with going it alone either.

I think I'm just in a panic right now because of how bad it's gotten recently.

I have an apt next week with a new doc. I'm pretty much planning to go on the met I was prescribed by my old doc unless this new one has any grand revelations on other treatment options.

One of the reasons I'm anxious to start met and find out about an increase in my flutamide dose was because of some of the studies I've read as well.

It seems from reading here at that most of the women having prolonged success are also on met.

It's my belief that when you do a double-pronged approach, you have better chance of overall success. I'm hoping my doctor will allow me to try the Flutamide soon along with the Met i"m on now.

best wishes

Hi! I'm thinking of asking my Dr for a prescription for flutamide to help my hirsutism.

I want to first ask, though, has anyone noticed any changes in your voice on flutamide? I'm a singer, and hormonal treatments are kind of, say, risky if they might make changes.

Thanks,
Rebe

Voice? No... but then I'm not a singer. Voice changes are not on the list of side effects for the flutamide tablets I take in any case.

I've only been on Flutamide for around 4 months. Right now I am on 325 mg a day but I am building myself up to 500 mg. The studies my doctor found said that there were no results under 500 mg. In any case, it's really hard for me. I take 250 mg a night when the tiredness wont be a problem. but anymore than 75mg in the morning and I get really tired.

Has helped tremendously with hirsuitism but thus far there has been no regrowth (which is what i am taking it for).

If it were to effect your voice, how would it do that? What would the hormones in it do?

I don't know about the voice, I've been on Flutamide for a year and the only symptom I have is change of urine colour. My voice has always been deep and hasn't changed with the Flutamide...

Where are all you girls on higher doses finding these docs!?

I cannot convince anyone to raise my dosage yet!

I've been having this nagging feeling that both my metformin dose (1000mg) and flutamide dose (250mg) aren't high enough to halt my high androgen symptoms.

I have an apt at the end of this month and will hopefully get new blood levels taken. If there isn't a big change then I'm going to beeeeg for higher doses of one or both. Otherwise I may need to hunt down another doc.

None of the docs will agree that a total T level of 60 is too high either. This is even though I have bodybuilder arms (don't lift weights), facial hair, and hair loss.

I'm turning into a dude....

Isn't this frustrating?

I think that the pcos got worse after my second pregnancy.

I've never skipped periods before and since July my cycles have been around 40 days or longer.

I've always carried muscle but as an experiment I haven't been lifting weights for a couple months now. Just lifting kiddies and doing cardio. I have shoulders right now that I used to work my butt off to get, and can flex and show off a pretty impressibe bicept. I'd be loving this if I didn't have the other problems.

Oh, I miss my boobs too. Please come back... a little?

Hi, been a while. I'm here with a bit of a followup.
Not a good one I'm afraid.

After almost 2 years of taking 2x125mg flutamide per day and it being absolutely wonderful to my skin and hair, my recent blood tests have shown that my bilirubin is a little over the limit. (normal is up to 20, mine is 22). Because of this my doctor has suspended the treatment for a month, so far. The whole treatment, Yasmin AND flutamide. I'm currently taking no pills.
At the end of the month I will do another blood test, and then he'll see whether or not I can continue taking hormones.

I am absolutely devastated. Just when I thought I'd found the magical cure for all the symptoms, it seems I may have to stop taking it all together.

Has this happened to anyone else, anyone had any problems with liver function tests while taking flutamide?

Also my enzimes are
ALP - low
AST - normal
ALT - normal
GGT - normal

ALP (and usually GGT too) have been low on all my tests since I first started taking b/c 8 years ago. My doctor isn't concerned by this, just the bilirubin. :/

Any one have any good news to report about Flutamide ? How long were you on it before your hair loss and hirsutism stopped ?

I am STILL in the process of asking doctors to prescribe it to me.
I have another appt. soon with a dermatologist and hopefully he will prescribe it to me.

Kat, (if you're reading this), what was the dosage that you were on when you took it ?

I am still going to ask for the lowest dose possible and just see what happens.
