Default Can anybody "interpret" these results?

I have not been diagnosed with type II yet but have had several glucose tests in the past. During both of my pregnancies I failed the 1 hour test but passed the 3 hour version. I went to the doctor 3 months after giving birth to my last child and asked for another test because I know I am predisposed to get it.

I "passed" the test but the results kind of scare me. Tell me if this is a bad sign or not.

My fasting # was 84 where they say high is 105
1/2 hour later is was 129 which they say should be between 100 - 165
My hour was 152 which they say should be between 120 - 155
My 2 hour was 76 which they say should be between 75-120

Is it an indication of something if my hour was extremely high and then my two hour swung the other way and went extremely low. Does this mean my body does not process insulin correctly and I am soon to have this disease?

If anybody can give some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jill

Looks to me like your pancreatic beta cells are working just fine. Your one hour reading wasn't "extremely high", just at the high end of normal. Your blood sugar at the two hour point was back down, meaning that your first phase insulin response was sufficient. If it wasn't, it would have taken longer to return to normal (and the second phase insulin response would have had to work harder to get it back down). You can read about how insulin works at this link:

I just want to mention that if you hadn't eaten at least 150 grams of carbs a day for the 3 days prior to the GTT, your results may be skewed higher (there is an exaggerated blood sugar response when the body isn't used to eating carbs before drinking the glucose solution). That's something the docs often don't think to tell patients, but with so many people following low carb diets these days I thought I'd mention it to you just in case.
