Looks to me like your pancreatic beta cells are working just fine. Your one hour reading wasn't "extremely high", just at the high end of normal. Your blood sugar at the two hour point was back down, meaning that your first phase insulin response was sufficient. If it wasn't, it would have taken longer to return to normal (and the second phase insulin response would have had to work harder to get it back down). I just want to mention that if you hadn't eaten at least 150 grams of carbs a day for the 3 days prior to the GTT, your results may be skewed higher (there is an exaggerated blood sugar response when the body isn't used to eating carbs before drinking the glucose solution). That's something the docs often don't think to tell patients, but with so many people following low carb diets these days I thought I'd mention it to you just in case.
