| Registered User Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: New England ![]() | I don't know if Im in the right place or not.. .. I am newly diagnosed and my OB is having me go see and endocrinologist.. the problem is that my appt. isn't for another month. I have had all the bloodwork done and know that my levels are high.. namely insulin.. Anyway, lately I have been tired, headache, dizzy spells and things like that..also I have been seeing "spots". I tested my sugar today after eating some cheez its and it was at 76.. I ate and it went to 102.. then it was back down to 70. I don't know what these numbers mean.. I keep hearing all different things about whats a "normal" range.. I spoke to a nurse at my Dr.'s office and she said that because of the IR that will make me also have low blood sugar.... I didn't know that and I can't get an earlier appt. with the endocrinologist. Can anyone help wtih this and tell me what is normal...? Blessings, Heather

| Registered User | Have you been diagnosed diabetic? How long are you waiting after you eat to test your blood sugar? Try testing two hours after the first bite of your meal and see what your levels are. They should be between 80-140. I get alot of the symptoms you described when my blood sugar is too low. If you are feeling bad, test, then if the number is under 80 eat a snack with 15 grams of carbs and test again in 30 mins. It should raise it and you will start to feel better. HTH! Also if you are having low blood sugar often try smaller meals more frequently.

My friend went to the DR. and said they told her the normal range starts at 70, and working in the nursing home I did a lot of blood sugars, but we weren't supposed to give any snacks for the symptoms unless they were in the 60's. Well I find this just ridiculous as I have had low blood sugars myself and know for a fact I start feeling goofy at around 70, seeing all the starry spots and weak feeling. I think one time I even felt goofy in the 80's so I had some orange juice and felt better. I would say to have a more substantial snack than cheese, like a sandwich and some orange juice or something.

I went to a diabetic program and they told me that it's really important to eat your carbs with a protein as your sugars will go up very quickly and drop quickly if you don't have a protein.your cheez are carbs. It's very important for pcos sufferers because our pancreas produces too much insulin when we have sugars which is carbs. so maybe before your appt you can try to follow a diet to help stabalize your sugars. another thing is to eat every 3hours to avoid your sugars too become too low because this is when we have cravings and binge. I hope this helps. ![]() |

| Registered User | Your insulin levels are high because your body doesn't use it right so it makes more. When your pancreas has to work harder you burn it out and can become diabetic or your body will just not use all that insulin you make the right way. That is when drugs like Actos and Metformin come in. They help your tissues become more sensitive to the insulin your body makes thus your pancreas makes less insulin and basically can save you from having diabetes early. You may eventually get it anyway, but by taking these drugs it slows down the progression. |
