The last one is the group that publishes the birthing issues magazine that is displayed for free around town. I have seen advertisements in there for doula's as well.
I think I might give the Edmonton association a call and see if they have an information session I could go to...or if someone could come to my house and tell me all about their services. I've heard a lot of good things about Doulas...but just general information...I don't know enough about them to know if I should hire one!
I'm going to discuss it with my husband and see what he thinks. If I decide to call for information (which won't be for a while though...too many things on my plate right now!), I'll let you know what I find out!

I just wanted to let you know that we decided against hiring a doula.
My DH has decided to learn various relaxation and massage techniques to help me through labour himself. We've borrowed quite a few good videos from the library on lamaze breathing and pregnancy massage....and he's doing a really good job so far. So we're going to save the money and go at it by ourselves (I hope we made the right decision!).
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what we decided so you didn't think I forgot about you (since you wanted to know what I found out)!

Sorry it took me so long to reply to your post. I appreciate you letting me know your decision. If I ever get pregnant I might consider one, I'm not sure.
You must be getting pretty close to time?? How are you feeling? Are you getting anxious?
I'm VERY close now! My due date is September 26th....so only 20 more days (give or take) to wait!
I'm so excited, still quite sick (with morning sickness) and totally anxious! I can't wait until the baby comes!!! I would have him/her today if I could!!!

That's cool. Two of my closest friends had their babies their with the same doc. I am thinking of using her if I can ever manage to get pregnant again.
I'll look forward to hearing all about your birth story.
Sorry they both had Dr. Long deliver their baby. One had gone to her all through her pregnancy and the other one had to have an emergency c-section and ended up with her. Both were very happy with her. Sounds like she has a good sense of humour.
Can anyone recommend a good DOULA in the EDMONTON area?
