Question Can anyone tell me if this was similar to their experience?

Hi,

I asked that my fasting insulin and glucose be repeated as I have a significant history of hypoglycemia (due to overreleasing insulin) and my many other PCOS complaints including infertility. My first results were after about an 8 hr fast:

Glucose 93
Insulin 9

Just three weeks later my second test after about a 13 hour fast were:

Glucose 105
Insulin 8

My question is why is my blood sugar going up after more time? Am I glucose intolerant or on my way to diabetes. I have 3 first degree relatives with diabetes and this most recent blood work shows my cholesterol at 309 (the worst ever!) I have also been suffereing from episodic blood pressure elevations (my BP has always been like 100/60 and now has been as high as 165/145 after working out). My docs keep pushing me off but I have a new appointment next week with a new doc at Duke. I am hoping for answers and solutions. Anyone have experience with this. I have read that blood sugar levels over 110 fasting indicate high risk for Type 2 diabetes and that some docs treat with glucophage with fasting insulins over 10 - well I'm borderline for both and worried about getting lost in the "within normal range" grouping when my body might be going downhill.

Please share with me your input and please let me know if you know more about fasting insulin/glucose readings - I'm very anxious - we are TTC and I want to be healthy to have and raise children!

When you talk to your DR, explain to importance of your numbers.

They must understand that even borderline numbers can be very dangerous to YOU.

As for your chol being above 300, that is a walking heart attack.
You must reduse your fat intake now.

Plus with the BP being so high. My DH tested col at 327! They emeidatly put him on an EKG machine right there!

Your IR number is suposed to be 50 or below.
I tested at 113 the first time. So you need to get a plan together and don't wait for the DR to tell you. start now.

Lower your fat intake.
Reduse your carbs/sugar

This is not easy to do. So have patients with yourself.
Take it one day at a time. But you have to start reading labels.

They may need to put you on a product like Lipitor for cholesteral
and a BP med

And maybe Gluc for the sugars/insulin

Please make a list of your concernes so you don't forget anything.

Good luck,
Patty
