Default can emotions affect you physically?

I was wondering about this as on Friday night my SIL announced that she is pregnant again - she conceived (as usual) in her first month of trying and (as usual) was very insensitive when telling us all about it ("it's so easy to get pregnant" being one of her most used phrases). My Dh's family are also very insensitive when it comes to things like that - we have explained our problems again and again to them - but they don't seem to 'believe' in it and my FIL said on friday 'it would be nice to have some more grandkids from our other kids'.

Anyway, what i am getting at is that all weekend since then apart from being tearful etc, my stomach has been cramping non-stop. I have endometriosis too but it's unusual to get cramps at this stage in my cycle. Af is nowhere near due so it's not that. I was wondering whether the upset is showing physically. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks so much for listening!

It definitely can affect you. I don't know if that's what it is for sure, but I have problems with my stomach when I'm extremely stressed or upset. I know too that I got shingles right after one of the most stressful times in my life. If it keeps bothering you, you may want to check it out. I'm sorry that you had to put up with your sister-in-law's insensitivity.

I definitely think emotions can cause physical reactions. I get headaches when I'm stressed or after being very sad for a period of time. I get heart palpitations when I get too angry.

I, too, am sorry to hear that your sister-in-law and other family members are so insensitive. It makes it difficult to be in that kind of environment when you're TTC.

Hang in there.

I am so sorry your in-laws are such insensitive clods. I wish as an outsider I could tell them all what jerks they have been. I hope it won't stay with you long, and know we understand, and you can always complain about them here.

I definately think your emotions can affect yo physically. Be very careful and try not to get upset. I know that's easy for me to say, but the stuff I deal with everyday affect me greatly and it's starting to show with medical conditions.

Oh, oh yes. My emotions play a huge factor and how I feel, especially my extraordinarly sensitive tummy. I'm always getting nausea, cramping, queasiness, etc. when I'm upset, nervous, anxious, depressed, etc. It is horrible... I'm sorry. I hope you feel better soon.

Also, make sure you are drinking enough water. Not pop, coffee, tea, juice, etc. WATER. I tend to get very crampy if I'm a little dehydrated.

I get extremely tight knots in my tummy when I'm nervous about something. And when I get stressed, I break out in hives and get really bad migraines. So yes, your emotions can definitely play a part in your physical demeanor.

As for you in-laws, try not to put too much emphasis on what they say to/in front of you. They don't understand what you're going through, and probably never will. Hang in there!

When I'm highly stressed my neck breaks out for some reason. I get terrible stress headaches as well. We've been going through major stressful times recently and my breasts are sore and my ovaries have been throbbing. For no reason, because it's not my AF. I don't know if it has to do with my emotions or not.
