Default Can i ask the dr to up my dose?

I'm taking Metformin Prolonged Release Tablets, (full name on the box says ''Bolamyn SR 500mg Prolonged Release Tablets. Metformin Hydrochloride'') and i get them in boxes of 56 tablets.

i was told to take one on a morning and one on a night, which equals 1000mg, and i have been taking these for about 2 months, and most things i have read on here, i should have lost SOMETHING by now. but i havnt lost anything, not even one pound.

im pretty much recovered from an eating disorder where i ate under 500 cals a day, and my diet now is still pretty healthy so its not the food i eat. and i walk the dog 4/5 times a day.

i've also read that quite a lot of you got started on 1500mg a day, so do you think i could ask my Dr to up my dose to this and see if it makes a difference?

i was started on one tablet a day for two weeks, then upped to two a day. i take my tablets in the middle of my meal too, as i heard that was a good way to do it.

any tips would be much appreciated :-)

I don't know about weight loss, because I never lost much weight on Met (it more or less kept me from gaining weight). I went on it to regulate my cycles in an attempt to get pregnant. I was on 1000 mgs for over a year with no results. I spoke to my doctor, and he upped my dosage to 2000 mgs. The month my dosage changed, I got pregnant. If you don't feel your current dose is working for you, definitely call your doctor, but he/she may tell you to let more time pass before changing your dosage. Good luck!

I didn't know you could use Met to regulate your cycles, i thought it was mainly for weight loss and diabetics etc

i was told by my Gynocologist that if i wanted to get pregnant i would have to go back and discuss things with her.

everyone has been pretty vague with me about what my meds do and what future steps are for me concerning my PCOS. everything i know about PCOS i have learnt myself by looking online.

i think i will make an appointment to see my dr in the morning, thanks :-)

I had the same problem getting information. It seems like so many doctors don't know enough about it. I can tell you that Metformin can regulate an irregular cycle, so birth control is important! I used to go months between periods, and the metformin made my cycles between 32-35 days. I know it can also help you lose weight, but I don't honestly think I tried hard enough. You're probably working harder than I was, so I think upping the dosage could kickstart your weightloss (if you can deal with the glorious side effects!) I hope your doctor gives you the info you want!

No, it's not 'mainly' for weight loss... It's not even 'slightly' for weight loss.
