I went off the pill in october last year which the doctor never considered doing anything else. My period started to go weird around christmas and i didn't get it. In feburary i got i guess i got this really really light period which was hardly there. I've struggled with acne most of my life my doctor put me on the pill for acne and irregular periods and i remember her telling me that i had something which i would need hormone therapy to fall pregnant but i never thought anything of it until i started not getting a period. I've had more than average hair than normal nipples, chest, navel arms. I'm gaining weight like no tomorrow... i feel like i am gaining weight weekly. I also have cramping with my periods even on the pill.
In october i also had an ultrasound and my ovaries and blood flow were perfect. The Doctor said that i had tipped uterus.
Because i haven't had period since november my gp is sending me to Dr Douglas Keeping who is a ob/gyn/infertility doctor. I've been waiting for over 6 weeks to get in to see him but as of next week on wednesday I'll have more of an idea what's going on. I'm scared i love babies and kids so much they're my life and i've always had a fear i would never have children.
I am currently on antidepressants and anti anxiety medication.
Does anyone know anything about Dr Douglas Keeping and whether he's any good. He works in watkins Medical building with all the infertility doctors.
Firstly, welcome to the boards!! Glad to have another cyster in beautiful Brisbane.
Sorry to hear that things have just been getting worse since you came off the pill. I too have had the same problem, each time I have come off the pill (which has been a few times now).
As for Dr Keeping, I have heard of him, but don't know anything about him, but if he is part of the team from Watkins he should be fantastic!! I currently see Dr David Molloy, who is part of the Queensland Fertility Group, and is based in the Watkins Med Centre, and he is lovely!!! This was my first time (the last cycle) of seeing him, but because I had problems and had a really long cycle, he started things moving straight away, no messing around at all!!!
I am glad you are going to see a gynocologist, as they are the best ones to treat the ongoing problems. I thought my doctor was doing a good job until I started seeing a gyno. They seem to know alot more about the PCOS than the normal GP's.
Are you going to start TTC? Or is that down the track further once the pcos gets sorted out better?
I am trying to fall pregnant since i went off the pill in october. I'm so scared of not been able to fall pregnant. Does anyone know our chances. What do i have to expect on my first visit to see the Doctor. I am lucky my fiance is coming with me on Wednesday. there's one good thing about going with my fiance he knows more about myself than i do and he remembers everything.
Well I have no idea on the percentage numbers for our chance of getting pregnant, it differs between everyone. Some can do it with meds first time, other it takes a bit longer. Once the pcos is being treated (usually with Metformin) it seems to have helped alot of cysters ovulate by themselves and acheive pregnancy that way.
Its good that your fiance is going with you! The doctor might want to have him checked out as well. That is what happened with my fiance. A bloodtest and then a sperm assessment to rule out any problems with him. Thankfully his results came back pretty good.
What to expect with your first visit, well telling the doctor your history, like when you first mensturated (sp?) have they been regular/irregular the whole time, how long you have been ttc, etc, questions like those plus others (sorry but I can't remember what the others where that I was asked when I went for the first time).
Also if you have any questions, make sure you ask him, if you think of something to ask him today, write it down so you will remember to ask him when you are there (I didn't write down what I wanted to ask and completely forgot once I got in there!!).
When I first went to see Dr Molloy, he put me straight onto Clomid, and then come back 5 days after I had finished it to see if I was going to ovulate, which it turns out I was, and had an artificial insemination with fiance's sperm the next day. I am currently waiting for AF to arrive to see if the AI worked or not!!
They generally like to get things moving straight away instead of waiting for something to happen naturally that might not happen for months!!
It is a pretty scary road when you are not sure if or when you are going to fall pregnant, but just remember, there are alot of cysters here in the same predicament, so you are definately not alone!! If you ever need someone to talk to, even if it is just to have whinge at the fact that its not working, or whatever, just send a message! Us cysters have got to stick together
I just want to say thank you for listening. I've been really anixous waiting to see the doctor the last 6 weeks. I'll be sure to tell you how i've gone.
I don't know anything about Dr Keeping, but I'm sure he'll be great....most of the Dr's with QFG seem to be. Dr David Lingard was my ob/gyn for my first baby and I am off to see him next month to ttc #2.
Your story is very similar to mine......as soon as I went off the pill my body went hay wire!!! I didn't know what was going on until I started ttc and was then diagnosed with PCOS.
I hope your Dr is great and gets things in order for you soon.
Great to hear you are going to Dr Keeping - i dont go to him but i know people through QFG who say he is excellent. We go to Dr Lingard and he is brilliant so i would say sticking with a doc from QFG you are in safe hands.
My best advice for the appt on Wednesday is go with lots of questions! I have been going to gyn/ob since i was 15 and found that so many of them have very little idea of what is really going on with infertility that you need to prompt them with questions!
Dr Keeping should be fine with getting the info to you - just make sure that you GET ALL your questions answered. Dr Lingard just rolls his eyes (3 1/2 years down the track this is) cause i still walk into appts with my diary and my million questions. Finally he will get to answer pregnancy questions for me!
Secondly, i would write down any drugs i am on and exactly how long for each medication. This will give them a good idea of what is working, what isnt and maybe any interactions.
Thirdly, Dr Lingard asked us lots of personal intimate questions so be very sure you are dh are willing to answer them!
Also you may like to talk to dh about when you might want to start a family/fertility treatment cause that may shade how you will be treated. If you want to get your health better then so be it and you will get different treatment to someone wanting to embark on fertility treatment.
He may also request a heap of tests - bloods etc - so that if you do need fertility treatment he can get an idea of what baselines are and what treatment may work best.
Good luck i am going to Doc Lingard on Wednesday avo so please let me know how you go!
Hugs
Indi

hi carrie, hope everything goes well with the dr. Just thought i'd answer your question about dh, "darling husband". There are heaps of abbreviations listed in the newbies section which might be of help to you, it can be a bit confusing can't it.
Take care, Rhon.
Not trying to be pushy, but there seem to be lots of brisbane cysters, so it could be helpful to others looking for a dr? That is, if you haven't already posted there of course! Take care, and good luck to you all on your journey.
