Having TROUBLE with diarrhea and can't seem to eat anything without needing the bathroom an hour or so after (sometimes sooner!!) Is there any combination of foods that works better than the others? I am taking two pills (one every 12 hours) Thanks ladies!!

Toast, yogurt, appleasauce, rice and bananas. That is bland enough to get your system setteled a little. With Met. I cannot eat salad by itself, but if I eat more meat than salad I'm fine. Sugar substitutes bother some people especially on an empty stomach. Greasy foods can cause problems, also, so try avoiding fried foods, etc.

Take your Met with food. I find I have to avoid: Salads, Eggs and Greasy foods. I also can't go high on carbohydrates without eating protien (ie have to have spaghetti with meat sauce, can't just do marinara). It took my body a long time to get used to the Met. I have been on it for almost 4 years and I still get side affects here and there. It was much worse when I was on regular Met, now I take Fortamet and it's been wonderful. I can have a salad here and there as well as eggs, I just can't over do it or I pay for it.

From what I have read, everyone is different. Keep a log of what you can and can't eat. Good luck, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Thanks ladies. I keep telling myself to start a food journal, I NEED to do that!!! It's just so weird because I didn't have problems for 2 months and now all of sudden - BOOM! Crazy gut problems. It's very frustrating!!!

I found that the IR book really helped me determine what and how much I should eat.

I am with you Borcherding. Everything I eat makes me sick. It doesn't seem to matter how good I try to be. Maybe I should try the carb diet book next.

hi --

i had the same problem for years but it is much better now thanks to calcium w/d tablets. i think it wasn't the met making me go, i think it was an after-effect from my gall-bladder removal surgery. the bile causes your food to move throught your system faster -- hence the urge to go. i take a calcium pill at night and at breakfast and have seen SUCH a dramatic improvement. to read more about this, check out the irritable bowel boards at www.healingwell.com. good luck!

i had bad diarrhea like a few weeks ago. I finally went to the doctor and they told me I had a bacterial infection. I took the antibiotics and some other med and it stopped. now it's back. This is really annoying. I just finished my last antibiotic I think on Friday so maybe it's after effects of the antibiotic and the milkshake I had sunday night (I'm lactose intollerant.) Still, I'm really sick of going to the bathroom and feeling like this.
