Default can I get PG on these levels?

Hello,
well first I was hypothyroid me level was TSH 9. Then I went to 4. Then my Regular doctor told me that was the higher side of normal. She perscribed 100mgc levothyroxine. I took it like an idiot.I was taking 50mcg. But I didnt question this and I should have. Well then my levels shot down to .004 which is not good. She since told me to stop the meds and now it is .008 which is still not good. She thinks it will go back up soon and that it is just the meds. My Re didnt seem to freak about it.

The answer depends on what your T3 and T4 numbers were. My TSH is 0.2 (below the normal range), but my T3 is 2.13 (range 1.8-3.9) and my T4 is 1.7 (range 0.9-1.7). They have me on an abnormally high dose of Synthroid because of thyrotoxicosis, in an attempt to supress my thyroid's natural function. My RE says these numbers are perfect for TTC.

It is much better to have T3 and T4 slightly high than slightly low while TTC and while pg.

My TSH is 0.3 as of today. I have never had anyone check my T3 and T4 that I know of. This is something I will ask my RE about though, I was wondering about the levels and being able to acheive pg as well. Does your RE feel you can get pg at the level of .2?

Thanks for the info Jessica

You had Graves and they destroyed your thyroid's natural function with radioactive iodine, right? If so, then you're in the same boat as me. The TSH does not matter so much. You'll hear people say that for TTC you should have a TSH between 1 and 2, but that is not necessarily true in cases like ours.

Make sure they test your T3 and T4. Your TSH is like a thermostat. When you body needs more T3 or T4, it turns up the TSH, which tells the thyroid to make more T3 and T4. That's why women with low thyroid (hypothyroid) have high TSH levels. When you body is getting everything it needs from the Synthroid, the TSH goes way down. In our case, we're getting so much synthetic hormone that the thermostat doesn't need to tell our thyroid to make much T3 and T4 at all.

Anyhow, get your T3 and T4 numbers from your endocrinologist (or twist your GPs arm to test it). As long as those are in the normal range, you're fine. The higher end of normal is better than the lower end of normal (the opposite is true for TSH).

Thanks Jessica!

Do you use Synthroid? I know that there is another medication out there but every Dr I have asked said that Synthroid was the only option. I do remember researching on that you should take if it was a combo of T3 and T4 that needed to be regulated, but it needed to be refridgerated or something like that, it was a while ago. But like I said the Drs won't accept anything but Synthroid.

Thanks for your help. I am collecting info for my aboutment with my RE next week. I am going to be proactive!

Yes, I take Synthroid, which is a T4 supplement. For most people, taking T4 is enough, as it also synthesizes into T3. That's not the case for everyone, and some people advocate taking Armour Thyroid (which comes with its own set of problems). But if your T3 and T4 test in the normal range and you feel good, Synthroid should be just great for you. That my opinion based on the research that I've done, but as you'll read in some other recent threads here, some people feel passionately pro or against Armour. But I believe for most people, Synthroid does the trick.

Hey Jessica,
In my records all I can see is T3 is 1.22 which is on the higher side of normal, Tsh is .008 and also Thyroxine is 1.6 so I am not sure. My RE didnt seem concerned. She said that it was due to the screw up in medication and she is sure that 50mcg of levothyroxine will be my dose. I have read that 1.0-2.0 is ideal TSH for TTC. I am confused with these numbers. I am having IUI probably Wednesday and dont want to mess up my chances. I dont think my RE would allow me to do it if she didnt think it possible.
Sparky
Thank you

P.S.
I havent had a thyroid test in almost 4 weeks so...........do you think they could be getting higher? Hopefully? I noticed that during my treatment there was a time when I felt great. My heart palpitions I had had were totally gone which was a miracle because I had had them for 2 years and no one knew why. But then when I was taking TOOOOOOOO much levothyroxine my palpitions started again. Today I noticed they are alot better. So............... I just know that I have to get to an exact level and my heart will be fine. Man I cant stand doctors!!!!!!I had gone to the best cardiologists and no one knew what was up!!!
I feel I am getting closer to whatever level the good level is. My doctor wouldnt do a test yesterday because she said it was too early. I mean couldnt she just check?
