Thumbs down Can I just vent?

Hi, I'm feeling overwhelmed. I don't officially have a diagnosis but my Doc and I are pretty sure I have PCOS after 7 years of searching for what was wrong. I feel overwhelmed because this means a change in my lifestyle (I've always been on one diet or another, but this is different to me). I guess the fact that I'm an adult now, living 100 miles away from my family and friends and I just got a big diagnosis which isn't gonna be cured by taking an antibiotic or anything like that is getting to me. My friends are being nice about this, but I know they don't understand it. So as I'm learning about PCOS I'm telling them what I know, and they keep telling me to wait for the Doctor's advice. I want to start making the change in my life, I've started eating alot healthier. I just have to find time to squeeze an exercise regimen in. I feel alone, aside from my cousin who I just found out has PCOS as well, but she and I don't see eye to eye. She's happy to just take the medications and that's it. I want to try weight loss first and see if that'll help, maybe try some supplements. I do not want to take BC, I'm not too thrilled from what I've heard about Met, I'd rather go as natural as I can until I want to try to conceive. And then there's a whole other issue, I want to be a Mom, I always have. I hoped that the hardest part would be finding my prince Charming, I don't think I've found him yet, and now I am worried about having kids in my future. I hear all the stories of how long it took some people to conceive and some are still trying to. I'm scattered all over lol but I guess I should get back to work, thanks to anyone who reads this far lol.

1) *hugs*

2) Start reading PCOS books -- including Elizabeth Vliet's.

3) Sometimes BCP can help PRESERVE fertility in PCOS patients.

4) Ask for a full blood work up -- including thyroid and ovarian hormones.

5) *hugs*

Hang in there. You can fight this!

Default I understand your feelings....

To AnnaSAF83-It is overwhelming when you are first getting all the imfo one PCOS it seems like it never stops coming and it is all negative things your don't want to hear. It is okay you will make it through this. It will make you stronger. You mentioned about natural things. Look into Vitex it is a supplement. It didn't work for me but I hear that alot of women have good results with it. You can also find a doctor who does Bio-Identical Hormones,I am using natural progesterone cream right now. I have only been on it for a month. I haven't had any bad side effects and my period has actually been trying to start.Which is good for me I haven't had a period on my own without prometrium for 5years.So you can look into those if you'd like. I know what you mean about the metformin side effects. You can also ask your doc about Glumetza it is new drug that is a time release that is suppose to not have bad side effects on your GI tract.I don't for sure not tried it.Good luck!!
God Bless,

Anna-not everyone with PCOS has difficulty with fertility, or at least to the extent others have had. It is, unfortunately, one of the many issues with PCOS, and it is the REASON I was dx.

I was 23 and wanted a baby really bad-my hubby and I had been trying for several months and I thought I had endometriosis. I had lots of pelvic pain and was finally told after a dx lap that I had PCOS. At the time I had no clue what that was. I simply wanted a baby. i took Clomid for 2 months and got pregnant with DD. we thought we would try again sooner, because we expected it to take so long, but after 3 months and no clomid I got pg with DS-this was when my DD was 17 months old!

I know, though, that not all cysters are that lucky-and now at age 33 I have been off BC of any type-not even condoms-and have not gotten pg...

I have however, had more and more problems with my health and wished that when I was dx at age 23 I owuld have gotten a doc that new more about it
Instead, I was put on Depo shots after my sons birth because I could not tol BCP-they make me CRAZY! I gained 60 pounds over a year and my health and wt have been in limbo ever since

my advice to you is this-find a doc whether it be a gyn or endocrinologist who KNOWS what they are doing-I have a great gyn now who says I should have NEVER been on depo-since it makes you not have a period-she says people with PCOS need one at least 3-4 times per yr since we are at risk for CA-ovarian/uterine-and we need that lining to be shed to prevent abnormal cell growth and build up

I am having difficulty with conceiving... and it's so frustrating to me that I was on the NuvaRing for over two years, fearing I would get pregnant and now, come to find out, that with my PCOS, I probably didn't have to use BC. It's very depressing to know that your body is preventing something "naturally" that you were taking pills for... *sigh*

I'm on Wellbutrin and Lexapro (started on it to deal with other things that are non-existant now... amazing how moving does that!) to help deal with the knowledge I have PCOS. I'm on Metformin and while I don't like s/e, if it'll help me get that little Zoe Nicole I've been asking for, then it'll be worth it! Hang in there!

I have been trying to conceive since 12/24/05, so it's a year and 8 months. On the Clomid, we tried for three months, and this month and until further notice on Metformin.

I forget how many mg of Clomid I took I thought I only took it for 2 but I think it was 3-anyway I either took it for one or two on one dose-the next month they doubled it and I got pg with DD
Does your hubby have any issues, too? My gyn/OB made us test him before they did the dx lap or gave me Clomid-he turned out okay, though
So you were on BC for 2 yrs prior to your dx?
Maybe your body just needs more time to get regulated using the met
I know it is frustrating when you want a baby
the hardest thing for me to hear was, "You have only been trying a few months-you are not considered "infertile" until one yr of TTC"
I could have cared less what the requirement for dx was!
I just wanted a baby!

Well, my doctor has said that if the Met doesn't work, then we'll do the Super Clomid method. But, I'm hoping I don't have to do that!

My hubby is perfectly fine.

It is so frustrating... I'm glad others feel the same way!
