I am going to be starting met today(VERY nervous). I was just wondering , I am taking some vitamins and supplements and was wondering if they were ok to take with met? I am taking..........
Hey there! I am starting MET today too!! I'm very excited and also VERY nervous (cuz this seems like the "last chance" for anything to happen with my PCOS). I am taking most of the same herbals and a few more. The pharmacist said she didn't see any concerns, though I understand from other met takers that your bowels may be quite loose (as in MAJOR diarrieha) so you might wanna lay off the fibre supplement for a while.

I would think they would all be ok.... I've taken vitamins and flaxseed oil while taking Met and had no problems. I would probably put the fiber aside for a while though just in case you get some of the not-so-leasant initial side-effects from the Met. Let's face it, you don't want to be adding fuel to a burning fire! Just give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes for you.
If you are starting Met now, make sure to read some of the info at the top of the page. It will come in very handy!
Take care and good luck,
Dani

Admittedly, I'm a minimalist, but I went off everything but the Met (and the multi-vitamin) to give the met the chance to work on my body without any other factors thrown in. The thing is, that the supplements you are considering are to help things that met can more than likely improve (saw palmetto for androgen, flaxseed for insulin). Until you give the met the chance to improve these issues itself, I wouldn't take more things than I had to. I see them as ALTERNATIVES to met, not supplements for met, but that's just my 2 cents.
And I definetly would NOT take any additional fibre right now. You don't need anything else encouraging loose BM's.
Good luck!

I just want to add as a reminder that fiber supplements such as Metamucil should not be taken with Met (at least for several hours after taking it), as they can reduce Met's effectiveness.
Also, remember that you need extra B vitamins (especially B12) while taking Met. My doc has me taking a supplement called Folic Xtra (by Sundown) while on Met.
