Can I Up My Dose Yet??

My gyn is pretty much leaving everything up to me. I requested Met, and he prescribed it. He told me to take 1 500mg pill, 3x a day. I've done my research and am more familiar with the drug than he is! I don't know if he knows the potential... uh, bathroom issues that can occur-
I had to stop Glucophage xr last year because of a horrible reaction to the binders (probably). I'm on Met(reg.) for 3 days now, and so far so good

! Do I have to wait a full week or 2 before jumping to 1000mg? I have no side effects or issues whatsoever from taking 500. Wouln't they have set in already by day 3? I'd like to up the dosage asap and hold it at 1000 for awhile.....any suggestions? TIA:p !

i think they start you off at the lowest dose due to GI issues (diarrhea,
heartburn, some nausea, etc.)

my endocrinologist told me to start levoxyl (thyroid meds) at Â½ a
pill (25mcg) for a week, but i started the full dose about 3 days of
NO side effects and he said it was fine. but MET is different :\

My RE basically left it up to me to decide when to get to 1500mg/day. I started the first week just taking one 500 mg pill and had no side effects. So, the next week I took 2 for a few days and after I still had no side effects I went to 3 a day. I did have some side effects at that point, but dealt with them and stayed at the 1500mg per day. After about a week, the nausea went away, but I continued to have (TMI!) diarrhea. We decided to switch me to Met XR and take all 3 pills with my evening meal. This has been WONDERFUL! I don't have to worry about forgetting a dose, and I haven't had ANY side effects. (Except for one evening when we ate at Red Lobster...but that's a whole other story!) Hope that helped!!
