Default Can overweight people have laparoscopy's?

I saw my gyno yesterday and he told me they needed to do another laparoscopy so that they could try and laser off some of my endometriosis. He then told me to lose weight as last time they did a laparoscopy they found it a little difficult as i had fat in my belly. Now i was quite slim when they did that!! And since have put on 35lbs or so. I'm worried that there is no way i will be able to lose that much weight in 8 weeks. I also have an eating disorder and it wouldn't be safe for me to try and do that. My stomach at the moment is fatty but not the largest thing i have ever seen at all!

Surely the procedure can be performed on overweight people? I'm really worried.

Sure it can! I just saw something on Discovery Health about a 400+ pound man who had gastric bypass by laparoscopy. They did have to use slightly larger tools than you would for a skinny person (what would a skinny person be doing have gastric bypass anyways LOL) but it worked out. And your healing time will be so much quicker. Good luck on your procedure.

My Mom is 335 and just had her gallbladder done last month.

I am 250 had a Lap done in Jan2003.

So I would check around for another surgen then if this guy says something again ask him if he prefered you took your money to a dif DR. You will see how quickly he changes his tune.

My GP is waiting for me to get through this surgery.(March 18)
I then will refocuse on dropping my weight.
I too have eating issues so the only way I will be able to loose is with excersise.

Once I start losing, my diet will naturally change.

Don't take that crud from others!
Be strong,

Patty

Thumbs up

Hi

Im 250lbs and I had lap and drilling in November 2002, my doctor said there is an extra risk being overweight but I can be done!!

Dont get fobbed off by inconsiderate doctors just because you are overweight.

Good Luck

Lynn x

I've had two laps done, and I weighed between 275 and 300 for each of them. I'm also going to speak to my RE about a third shortly. I have chronic pelvic pain due to surgical adhesions, and I need to have them severed so I can get some relief.

I've been in pain for the better part of ten years. In a word, it sucks.
